  1. Dynafire SCI tournament (GH)

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Feb 19 2008

The day of the tournament started out just fine. Woke up at 6AM, took a shower, made sure I had everything I needed to bring, and went to meet up with ZMaine at Coral Ridge Mall. From Coral Ridge, we took my car to the tournament. Along the way, we stopped for breakfast, and saw some guy get busted by the Iowa State Patrol. This guy had to be one of the stupidest people ever. He was in the fast lane behind the ISP, who was speeding a little, and when the ISP got into the right lane, the other guy decided it would be a good idea to pass him. (while still speeding). So yeah, he got pulled over and we laughed.

We got to DSM in a little under 2 hours and we were about an hour early for check-in. We looked around for a bit and helped someone put up that Getyourgamez.com banner. (You’re welcome btw) Eventually, we met up with a couple people from Scorehero.com (<3), who are also on here. RyuBlitz (winner of the tournament) and Cam (I believe he made it to the quarter-finals) were the first people we got a chance to talk to, but we eventually ran into Palpatine (one of the best plastic guitarists on the face of the planet – he had the misfortune of losing on My Name is Jonas 1st round due to a faulty guitar, and later on due to the performance bonus being good enough to put his opponent above his score. He should have dominated.) and Frygel a little later, as well as some other people I can’t quite remember right now (sorry). It was a great time being able to chat and hang out with you guys – we will definitely have to have some sort of get together in the near future!

As far as my own performance, I managed to win 1st round on Stricken vs. Nick G. (who should have gotten a rematch after it was decided that you couldn’t use personal guitars like I did) I was incredibly nervous, and my legs were shaking like crazy. I got over it a little, after the 1st round, but I still lost my 2nd round vs. Taylor (I think?) on Lay Down, because he got the performance bonus. I managed to get 100% on it (with an extra strum) though. It’s not a very hard song, but doing that in a tournament setting in front of so many people is something I’m pretty proud of. After that, I didn’t get to play again.

They decided to switch back and forth between the divisions, and the winner and loser brackets. I got stuck in the bottom half of the loser’s bracket, and it was about 6 hours between my 2nd match and the time Zach and I took off (Zach had already had the misfortune of getting eliminated, so he was pretty much waiting on me) to beat the storm home. I wasn’t too happy about that, but it wasn’t really a big deal. I still had a pretty good time watching the other contestants and chatting with everyone, and in the end, I think having fun is more important than winning anyway.

I think the GoG tournaments have a lot of potential, and they will probably be using this tournament as a learning experience so the next one will run a lot smoother. I thought you guys still did a good job for having such a huge turnout, and though there were some snags along the way, you guys kept the ball rolling. I’ll definitely be at the next tournament!

Hey man! It was great to meet you, and awesome to watch you still. Excellent job at Stricken man, blew me away.
Maybe a handful of us could get together and play Rock Band? You guys blow me away on guitar, but I'll give you a run for your money on the drums (Expert ftw. 275ish on SH right now and I don't even have half of my songs put in)

Look forward to hearing from you and the rest of the guys sometime, and it was finally great to meet some people who actually are better at plastic guitar than I.

Awesome review and thanks again for making the trip! It was great to meet you and the information you provided to the ScoreHero community was much appreciated. When we finalize the next event, you'll be the first to know Very Happy
