  1. Dynafire The SCI Guitar Hero tournament

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Mar 15 2009

When I initially heard about this tournament, I got really excited, because the SCI IMAX tournament that Ben and the crew ran last year was pretty enjoyable, and it was fun meeting a lot of internet friends in real life. As I read the announcement though, that joy turned to disappointment as I found that it was not actually run by the GoG crew again. On top of that, there were very little details announced in regards to how the tournament would be played, or even what game it was.

When ZMaine and I arrived, we got signed in and shortly after, there was a player meeting where one of the tournament organizers went over how everything would work. A little bit after that, the tournament was underway.

The majority of entrants were in the hard/expert division (though they thankfully changed it at the last minute to only expert. It was the same with the easy/medium division - they made it straight medium.) with a fair amount of entrants in the easy/medium division.

The tournament itself was run pretty well. Even though we were playing on a huge screen, there was no lag. That was the thing I had been fearing the most, and it can make or break a tournament.

Instead of making a long report of how ZMaine and I fared in the tournament, I'll keep it short. I lost my 3rd round against souize, and ZMaine lost his first round. I wish souize could have gone on to win it, but he was eliminated in the 4th round by someone who knew a better starpower path than he did. I don't know who ended up winning as it would have been 2 hours of waiting until they played the finals.

The only complaint I had about the tournament was the song selection. They only had a portion of the songs unlocked, and only one was any challenging. I think the results would have been much different if they had given us some harder songs, but ah well.

I managed to do a bit of GoG advertising while there too, so hopefully some of you guys attending the GoG 2v2 Halo 3 and Guitar Hero World Tour tournament next weekend will have some more competition. Wink

    Edit: Prizes were:

    For hard/expert:
1st place: $100 Gamestop gift card
2nd place: $50 Gamestop gift card

    For easy/medium:
    1st place: $50 Gamestop card
    2nd place: $25 Gamestop card

    Thanks for the report Dynafire!

I wish you would have taken the tournament title, but it sounds like you had a good time (and spread the GoG word pretty well), so I'm glad you and Zmaine enjoyed yourselves.

Do you know what they gave away as prizes?
