  1. Dynafire Going for 7 day survivor - update again! ACHIEVEMENT UNLOCKED! :D

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jan 19 2009

UPDATE: Got the achievement! Wow, that was one hell of a grind. I don't EVER want to do that again. Wink Now for some sleep finally. Also, it turns out my initial calculations were actually correct. Oh well, I got it. That's all that matters.

I officially have enough food to ride it out until the achievement pops. Due to a mathematical blunder on my part, I would have been a bit short on health by about two in-game hours before the 7 full days. That would have sucked, to say the least. I went out and got more than enough food than I needed, so I am certain of my survival capability. And no, there is not infinitely spawning food in infinity mode. It's all set, so this isn't as easy as constantly grabbing infinite amounts of food like in the normal game.

5 day survivor unlocked! Doing some quick math wizardry, it looks like I have enough to make it through another day and a half of in-game time. I'll need to venture out and find some more health eventually, but for now I'm hunkered down in an inaccessible room and waiting it out.

I got around to playing Dead Rising again, and decided I may as well go for the 7 day survivor achievement. For those not familiar with Dead Rising, you're stuck in a mall with hordes of zombies. There is a storyline to complete initially, but afterwards, you unlock infinity mode which is pretty much where you try to stay alive as long as possible. This is complicated by your life constantly diminishing, as well as the previously mentioned hordes of zombies. For 7 day survivor, you have to survive for a full in-game week all the while having your life constantly draining and having to deal with zombies and other enemies.

This achievement takes about 14-15 hours of continuous play to unlock, and I'm currently on hour 7, I believe. I'm sitting in a place where zombies cannot get me, and I'm just popping full health items every 20 minutes or so, when I get down to just a sliver of health. I'll probably be in this one room for the next 4 hours or so, since there are numerous food items laying around, plus I am completely safe from everything for the time being.

I hope I have enough to stay alive for the full 14 hours. If not, at least I should get the 5-day survivor achievement. Expect an update on this every now and then, because this is pretty boring. It's just a lot of waiting, healing, finding more healing, and repeat.

@BEN: These endurance tests don't really effect me much, but it feels really good to get these tougher achievements. It kind of sucks that I've spent an entire day doing this, but I didn't have anything going on anyway. That's usually the case for any of the longer achievements I've gone after. Actually, the day hasn't been a total waste. I managed to get a lot of cleaning and stuff done while I just wait to use health items. So really, today's been more productive than normal.

The only thing that's stopping me from even trying that is the lack saving...I can't play the game for that long! I once tried for zombie genocider...Not gonna happen Laughing

You're one of the most dedicated gamers around! These tests of endurance take a toll on ya, don't they? How do you feel when you get that sought after achievement?

In college, I wanted to unlock the indy car in Grand Tourismo, so I raced a 100some lap race. That was the most mindless dedication I showed to a single achievement within a game, that I can remember Wink
