  1. Dynafire A Kingdom for Keflings Review

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Nov 23 2008

Developed by NinjaBee/Wahoo studios, A Kingdom for Keflings is a sandbox-style civilization-building game. There is no real way to beat the game, which actually isn't a problem. It's one of those games you can play for hours at a time and continually find things to do.

The plot of the game is that you are a giant, who helps the small people known as Keflings create their kingdom. You start out small, by building some houses and basic structures. To do this, you get your Keflings to gather resources and return them to workshops, or you can help them out by gathering or carrying resources yourself. Over time, your structures will become more and more advanced, and require refined materials to build (like turning rocks into cut stone, then into bricks).

The user interface appears to be very complex at first, but after fifteen minutes I had it down. It's also done in a way that keeps you on track if you forget what you need to build. You can bring up building blueprints, see what the components are, and where to build them.

The music is very enjoyable - for a while, anyway. This may just be because I've played 10 hours in 3 days, but it starts to get to me after a while. Also, the game sometimes has an issue with the framerate. during seasonal transitions is the only time I notice it, but it slows down dramatically for about 5 seconds. It always fixes itself after the transition, so it's just a minor inconvenience that doesn't really affect the gameplay.

This is a title that I didn't see myself playing when it was announced, and am pleasantly surprised at how addictive it is. This is a great game for killing time, and it's very fun playing with friends. We may have to run a GoG game night for this sometime soon.

    Overall, I'd give it a solid 8/10.

Great game, I agree and we've got a castle to get to in the GoG Kingdom!

Let's get a GoG Game Night setup and invite our friends over at NinjaBee to join us. I think playing the game with the developers would be sweet.
