Shoot 'em up (the movie)
Player Chronicle -- Posted on Oct 22 2008
This is another thing I did this weekend, but I felt like it was worthy of its own chronicle.
I had always wanted to see this movie, but never got around to it. Thankfully my roommate who always knows what's on let me know about it, and I sat down to watch it on HBO Saturday night.
Overall, this movie is decent. There is plenty of gunplay, and plenty of silly/cheesy exploits that could never, ever happen in real life. Also, there are a ton of cheesy one-liners from the protagonist, but it doesn't make the movie suffer because of it. To be honest, I don't think they were attempting to make a serious movie here. The best way I can describe the film is "a Jackie Chan movie with guns". The plot itself isn't too bad, but towards the end it becomes very convoluted, and I gave up trying to understand it, and just wanted the protagonist to shoot a bunch of bad guys. (Which he did over and over again.)
The soundtrack to this movie however, is great. You haven't really experienced an action scene until you've heard "Joker and the Thief", or "Ace of Spades '08" during them.
This movie should be available on HBO on demand now, for viewing at your own leisure. If you don't have on demand, don't worry. They'll likely be playing it a lot, so keep an eye out for it. Again, it's not the best movie out there, but if you're a fan of gunfights and gratuitious violence, you should probably see it.

Posted On Oct 22 2008I had high hopes for this movie, but have to say it was not very good. I can see your positive points, but I'd recommend picking a different movie to watch or sticking to gaming this time.
