  1. Silent Bob Games 4 Grins charity event

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Nov 29 2008

Boobacca and I have been extremely busy, but we finally put a date together for our "Games 4 Grins" charity event to benefit Child's Play.

For those of you who haven't heard, Child's Play is a gamers charity founded by "Gabe" & "Tycho" from the Penny Arcade webcomic. What started out as a charity to benefit a local hospital has grown to cover hospital all across our nation and indeed the world.

There is a participating hospital right here in good old Iowa. As you can well imagine, it's the University of Iowa Childrens Hospital in Iowa City.

They've got a "wish list" up on Amazon.com that covers their wants/needs for the year. Some of the toys and games collected will be distributed as presents for sick kids to take home upon discharge, while others like consoles and handhelds will remain in their permanent collection, to be checked out for patients in individual rooms while they are treated or are rehabilitating.

Too often we get caught up in all the madness surrounding Christmas and forget its true meaning.

Giving to others, even if you'd rather spend it on yourself, is a reward in itself.

Having been in the hospital over a few holidays as a kid, I can certainly empathize with these sick kids. Some of them are dealing with illnesses and conditions so far removed from my own little sphere of existence that it's hard to fathom how they cope.

If Mario or Sonic will bring a smile to one of these kids' faces, isn't that all worth it?

Anyway, in order to help raise some money for Child's Play to help the Childrens Hospital in Iowa City, Cyber Ops is opening its doors for free play on Saturday, December 13th. The event will run the entire day from 11:00 am to 11:00 pm.

All we ask in exchange for gaming (we are taking NOTHING except concessions sales) is a donation of equivalency for the time you spend in the center.

A charity by gamers, for gamers should be an easy sell on a website like this one. I know Dynafire has already said he'll be up for this one. I hope a lot more of the locals will join us too.

If you're not in Iowa, look up Child's Play online to see if there is a hospital in your state that could benefit from a donation. Their website is www.childsplaycharity.org .

Silent Bob already knows this, but I'm going to be there, unless the weather is bad. Even then, I plan on making a donation anyway. Child's Play is a great charity, and it would be great to see a good turnout to this event.

We're really hoping there's a good turnout from the GoG for this one. Play some games you might not have tried yet and help sick kids at the same time.

Both Silent Bob and I really believe in this charity, and we've already donated out of our own pockets.

A special thanks to Ryan at GameStop for turning us on to this noble charity.
