It's a sad day to see Cyber Ops closing, but at the same time some things are necessary, and keeping a business that doesn't make money isn't very beneficial to you. Either way, what do you plan to do with all your cool things? The life size master chief and all the game posters, xbox's, televisions, etc. You and your family had a lot invested into that place are you just going to sell it all and continue with the computer shop? I hope to see you still on the GoG once in awhile and keep up with the gaming!

We'll be over there around 2pm on Saturday to start setting up. We'll bump over to the Lime Lounge around 3:15 (which you should join us for), and then be back at Cyber Ops around 6:30ish to start signing people into GoG 5,000

Posted On Jul 17 2009I wanted to stop by and share that we've got an upcoming video game event here in Des Moines NEXT weekend (7/25 & 7/26)!
We could really use your help to help bring the fun to our first church that's hired us to help run a large gaming element. Both Saturday and Sunday evening, the event only runs from 5-9pm, so we'd have plenty of time to enjoy other things during the weekend if you'd like and this large church is allowing us to spread the GoG word too!
We could use some of your gaming equipment if you're cool with that, as we'll be running 8 gaming stations each evening. I have more details and I hope you can make it...so let me know your thoughts asap... -

Posted On Feb 09 2009Sounds good! Personally, I like the full band idea. From experience though, it makes for a very small tournament turnout, and a short tournament in general. For entry purposes, you'd be considering 3 people as 1 person for example. So getting 8 bands requires 24 people. I'm not sure what you're expecting for turnout, but it's something to keep in mind. I really like the idea of random teams though. Seems like it would boost turnout since single entrants would be able to participate without a full ensemble.
As far as when to hold the tournament, it seems like waiting a little bit would be more fair. I'd really like to have a tournament where everyone has had no experience with the songs, but there will be videos on youtube prior to release, as well as people grabbing the game at midnight on release day (or earlier through illicit means) and getting a jumpstart on the songs. By waiting, I think everyone will have at least a little experience with the songs and be on a more even playing field. You could probably do both tournaments on the same day if you wanted to. It doesn't seem like they'd take that long to complete if you're using the same tournament format as the previous ones.
Anyway, that's just what I think. You guys know what you're doing though, so whatever you decide to do, I'm there. -
