Player Chronicle -- Posted on Nov 02 2009

So here we go. I just got done playing ODST [yesterday] and in the blur of what was supposed to be a most talked about game, I'm deciding to make it my first chronicle about it.

Lame. I know, but I have cheezits to keep me full while I write out what might be an empty game review.

ODST is in its own form a predecessor of the Halo archive, a new story, a new set of characters; with some old ones and a new look on the war that took place between the covenant and earth.

Aside from the game itself I am left to wonder why Bungie decided to add in an extra disc, if only to boost the price from 30 dollars to 60. In their sense of money hungry ways, I'm left with little sympathy for what might have been a semi-decent game.

To put it blunt, ODST felt like a blur with its short choppy plots that was all over the place. Any Halo player will begin to realize this is what might be, a prequel. A prequel to what comes later as the master chief that takes down aliens like nobodies business. The introduction was poorly lit as some mainstream cliché characters were thrown into my lap. With names like Romeo and Dare I was beginning to wonder if any real thought was put into it, other than – it might have been rushed.

Each character has a weapon that sort of goes with them and apart of me feels like due to said weapon, they were likened to that sort of personality. A sniper, with a shoddy attitude. A tank, with a love for explosions – it makes sense, just… a little too much sense down to the point that each player is predictable, obvious and in some ways, annoying. ODST left me with even more bitter disappointment when I had to sit through the kiss scene and some half told romance story boils down to a make-out session and a couple of one lines like “Make sure she has both.”

Just what audience where they targeting with a story like that?

I found that the rookie character was rather boring and almost forgotten about, just a pawn to move the other characters in place. I was looking forward to meeting up with all of them at some point and playing an all out battle with scenes of them together, but by the time that happened, the ‘climax’ of the story is nearly over. It was short, the characters were short and the timeframe for each of them to grow was insufficient.

It’s definitely a game I wouldn’t play over, unless of course the achievements were all too true to abandon. ODST is a step back from the Halo community, my only guess for such a terrible game was the money and map.

well put Minty! This was supposed to be an expansion! The "extras" was only 3 new maps for multiplayer.... they could just put that DLC on the marketplace, but NO! They decide that you have to pay $30 for it!

I suppose I feel like I too wasted $60 on this game, but as a Halo player, I feel it's my duty to like anything Bungie puts out that says Halo on it, lol.

Maybe we can put the game to use, by connecting for a 5 hour round of Firefight sometime Laughing

Keep these accounts coming and as we push towards 5,000 GoG members, I'm sure you can generate more visibility to your profile with these fun-to-read Chronicles...

idk, from what i saw it seemed pretty good. The only problem i've heard was that your team can get in your way sometimes. And i would the story would be not necessarilly INconsequential, just less consequencial. I've heard a lot of ppl express dissatisfaction with a Video Games containing too much story, so i have to wonder how much is too much? How much is too little. I guess if the story is good, then it doesn't really matter. :/

And i think the extra disc has all the extra stuff on it and all the multiplayer maps, so it basically takes the place of your old Halo3 disc, idk.

Well, the game itself was kind of a let down, but the important thing is that it has great graphics! *still bitter over the stale arguments of Wii haters* Ninja

Great read btw. Loved it. Very Happy Ninja

*concurs* I was litterally falling asleep while playing the game...I had never done that before! Luckily the game was a gift so I didn't pay for it Laughing
