  1. Team Foxy Rose checks out the new HeadPlay PCS Bundle!

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Oct 14 2009

I’ve been keenly watching the progression of personal media technology for a while now. Every year or so, developers come up with “new and improved” gimmicks, from 3-D goggles to virtual reality arcade games, that promise to enhance and intensify our personal visual experiences. But these gimmicks usually end up being lame money-wasting disappointments.

As technology evolves, so do these personal media systems. They are now becoming more and more popular, attainable, and real. There are now over fifty HMD (head-mounted display) devices to choose from, but these devices seem to have more cons than pros: they are unbelievably expensive ($2000+), poor in quality (low resolution), and/or extremely uncomfortable to wear (bulky, heavy, unfitted, cut off circulation to the brain). Lucky for me, I was given the honor of checking out one of the best HMD systems out there. HeadPlay’s PCS bundle is truly something worth experiencing.

I’m the co-leader of a gaming organization, so naturally, I wanted to try out the HeadPlay system with my X-Box 360. From the outset, I knew I’d be getting the component video quality seeing as I only had the S-Video/Component cable, but the quality was amazing. Not quite what a HDMI monitor might provide, but still amazing. Everything (from graphics to text to sound) was clear. If you’re a competitive gamer, like most of our Team Foxy ladies, gaming with the HeadPlay PCS will definitely take some getting used to, but it’s definitely exciting and a lot of fun to experience. Attimes I did feel a bit odd while sporting the visor with my family walking in and out of the living room staring at me strangely, but what do you expect? HMD systems are something you expect to find only in futuristic science fiction movies. I can only imagine how strange a person would look playing Wii Boxing while wearing the visor!

For $399.95, the bundle comes with the visor, “the Liberator” (a block that provides the connection between HeadPlay and your PC/Mac/game console), A/C Power Adaptor, S-Video/Component cable, Media USB Key, Visor lens cleaning cloth, a surprisingly nice pair of earbuds, cushioned visor inserts, and, of course, instructions for the casual customer. Everything is sophisticated, sleek, black, and neatly put together in a smooth storage case.

For all you non-gamers out there, don’t fret. HeadPlay is essentially an entertainment system that can be used with your computer, iPod, DVD player, and satellite/cable box. It’s very easy to put together – I didn’t refer to the instructions once while setting up my HeadPlay system.

Without a doubt, HeadPlay is one of the best personal cinema systems in the HMD market. It’s innovative design, versatility, simplicity, and convenience make it an incredible product for the consumers with $300+ dollars to spend and a serious interest in HMD systems.

Before I end this, I’d like to give a very big thanks to Bryan Tucker of HeadPlay Inc. for his support of Team Foxy Gaming and for giving me the opportunity to personally experience the full-fledged HeadPlay PCS bundle. I really appreciate the honor and I am very happy to be working with such an innovative company.

These types of devices do interest me, but I suppose I struggle to think of when I'd choose to use the device over the PC or TV. I'm glad to hear the technology is progressing, but I think I'm waiting until this entertainment is weaved into normal sunglasses.

You should have these guys bump into our community and share a discussion on their products and the technology that may be coming next Very Happy

It would also be neat to have you or them on the GoGcast this season, to chat about this subject as well! Thanks for the product review for sure.
