too much game Hype
Player Chronicle -- Posted on Nov 30 2009
Game hype is everywhere and there is not a single place you can go without hearing about the next big this or the next great that.
Frankly I think it is over exaggerated, let me give you a example: BAND HERO has had a lot of hype and looks like its gonna be a great game just because it comes from the makers of Guitar Hero. I hate to be the one who brakes it to you people but just because it is a sequel or even a new game with a lot of hype it does not mean that you are going to love it.
Another example is Prototype. don’t get me wrong it is a great game I could play it for hours nonstop but have you ever slowed down took a look around you and actually thought about the games that are coming out? maybe once all the hype where off of a game it wont be the greatest game in the world have you thought of that?
Also I would like to give a positive perspective to this Chronicle so for example Call Of Duty Modern Warfare 2 this game is phenomenal and has a lot of hype but that’s good because this is one of those games that can have hype or not it still is a great game no matter how you look at it!

Posted On Nov 30 2009I agree that MW2 lived up to hype, and everyone knew Band Hero was going to be crappy to the hardcore rock fans that have enjoyed the Guitar Hero series. Band Hero was most likely a way to get the games out to a greater population, thus making Activision richer, making Band Hero to us may seem like a waist of time, but it is a very good way for the company to pull in money from a greater population, plus a lot of people are starting to jump off the Guitar Hero boat

Posted On Nov 30 2009I agree that the "hype" is enough to give one a headache and also gives illusions of things being maybe better then they are. It's a product of living in a capitalistic society though. It's not just in the gaming culture, but more so has to do with our culture as Americans(I'm assuming your American).
It's just the way that things have progressed. The newest what ever it is, is always advertised as the latest and greatest.
That's why it is important to be able to sort through all the hype and have opinions of your own and be able to think for yourself. Simply put, don't buy into the hype. Keep an open mind, take what you can use from other places and leave the rest.
I agree with Ben in saying that this community can be used to help promote fair and balanced perspectives on gaming, which is something that I think a lot of good reviewers out there do, but on the other hand you never know who is giving them what for saying one thing or another. Luckily this seems to be true less often for game reviewers. However having a strong network of other gamers you know and trust to give you their opinions is definitely a strong club to have in your bag. -

Posted On Nov 30 2009Very true, but then again i hear people saying MW2 didn't live up to the hype (which it absolutely did) , so really its mostly based on the opinion of the gamer...
Great chronicle -

Posted On Nov 30 2009Hype over video games will never stop, so maybe we can use this community to share truth (versus hype) on all these new games that drop?
I for one agree, that Modern Warfare 2 lived up to all the hype...and that's VERY hard to do these days. Thanks for the thought and nice Chronicle sir. -
