  1. Kupo_Cakes The Nyko Intercooler, Keeping your 360 cooler ?

Player Chronicle -- Posted on May 27 2008

The Nyko intercooler 360 was made as a device to reduce the internal operating temperature and prolong the lifespan of your bestfriend the xbox360. Smile

The Nyko is easily installed into the back of your console and is powered by a pass through connection with your 360's existing power supply. This means no adapters, and it is automatically powered on when you power up your console.

Now knowing all this, a lot of 360 consumers went out and purchased one of these Nyko intercoolers ( including myself) , and have either loved it, or in my case, got rid of it.

I personally got rid of my intercooler for the same reasons many of other users have and those reasons are these:

    1. The nyko intercooler, while being a device that is supposed to help cool your system, actually does the complete opposite, and actually can overheat your system, causing the rrod!

    2. There have been reported cases of the Nyko intercooler and the 360 power supply cord actually fusing together from the heat the Nyko causes!

    3. An annoying thing i had happen ever so often while having the Nyko attached to my 360, was that the power supply kept falling out! I would go to turn my 360 on and I would have to wiggle the cord for a minute or so until it turned on.

    4. The final reason i stopped using a Nyko intercooler, ( as if the first three reasons wern't good enough), is that If somthing tragic does happen with your 360, microsoft will VOID your warranty if you are using a Nyko intercooler!

Now to be fair, Nyko has created the Intercooler EX which has a new AC adaptor made of metal and therefore solves the problem with power "stealing" and the plug falling off. I however will still not be using any intercooler.

So while others may have no problems with their intercoolers by Nyko, I personally would stop using the intercooler altogether. I instead do this, and recommend doing these things to keep your xbox 360 cooler:

    1. Keep your 360 in the standing up postion

    2. Keep your 360 away from other consoles and in an open area.

    3. Do NOT put your 360 on the floor or on a carpet. Keep the 360 on a flat non-fabric type surface.

    4. Finally, Keep the 360 plugged into its own wall source. Do NOT have your 360 on a powersurge protector, or multiple plug in source.

    Smile

Nice chronicle Smile . I indeed had the same problem. The first time I had an intercooler it was kinda clunky and not very stylish. After a while I started noticing that my 360 was getting warmer and warmer. I then got the rrod and went on the internet to find the problem. It was, in fact, the intercooler that most likely caused this issue. Very great tips, but also make sure to keep your power supply box off of the carpet as well.

Great tips here and although I do not use the intercooler, your insight is well received and you've organized this post very well!

I thought the advice about easy ways to keep your 360 running strong (without the intercooler) was great. When I had my RRoD, someone had commented about placing it on the carpet, so that might be more of an issue than alot of people might guess.
