Player Chronicle -- Posted on May 20 2008

Vectorman was one of my all time favorite games when i was growing up, And I think this game was just one of the many that influenced my love of gaming today.

The game sets out in 2049, with earth in shambles from pollution and littering.
Vectorman is basically a robot, but in the game he is known as an "orbot". Orbots are mechanical beings created by the humans to clean up the mess left on earth.

As the Orbots are left to clean up and take watch of earth, the human population is on a mission to colonize other planets.

The main 2 orbots you find in this game are of course vectorman, and the villan of the game Raster.

The orbots jobs being to clean up the earth, each had different jobs assigned to them. Raster's job was to watch over the planet earth through a computer network, but was accidently attatched to a working nuclear warhead by another orbot. This made raster insane and drove him into an evil state of mind. He renames himself Warhead and declares himself ruler of earth, and is ready to kill off any human who trys to return to earth.

Vectorman's job was to clean up toxic sludge on earth by taking it and discharging it into the sun.
While on one of his drop-off's, Warhead took control of all of the other orbots and started his mad earth domination. Vectorman, Unaware of rasters change into insanity, lands back on earth only to find chaos and madness. Being the only Sane orbot left, not under the control of Warhead, Vectorman takes it upon himself to be the hero of earth and restore peace of earth by ridding the planet of warhead and the orbots.

What made Vectorman stand out in my eyes is what he was capable of doing. First off was his main weapon. Vectorman was equipped with a ball gun in his hand, which included awesome powerups such as triple fire, machine gun, and bloo gun; but beyond his actual weapons, Vectorman stood out because of the ablilty to transform.

Through the use of power-up's, Vectorman was able to transform into things like bombs and drills to break through walls and floors. He could also (with powerups) Change his form to either be suited for swimming, or change into more unique forms meant just for fighting bosses.

The game was released on sega genesis in the fall of 1995, and instanty became a precious game in my collection. The controls were fairly simple, and the gameplay was amazing for the time. Vectorman consisted of 16 levels, and every level was worth the play. The game is a 2d action platform game, and was sega's anwser to boost their company, while competing with Nintendo with games at the time like "Donkey Kong Country".

So in conclusion, if you haven't played Vectorman, i advise you do. If you have played it , and loved it as much as i did, maybe try vectorman 2! The series is amazing, and Vectorman will always have a special place in my heart as far as games go. Smile
