  1. A-Thon X Hardcore Negligence

    Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jul 27 2009

    The following is a letter to appear in the August 2009 issue of Game Informer Magazine;

    "In the reader art section of issue 195, there was a picture of Jack from the under-appreciated MadWorld. I'm one of the few who bought that game- it makes me wonder about gamers who cry on internet forums about Nintendo failing its hardcore audience on the Wii. I'm starting to think the opposite is true: the hardcore audience has failed Nintendo. Why didnt you buy MadWorld, House of the Dead, Okami, or No More Heroes? All those titles should have sold more copies. If you call yourself hardcore, why aren't you buying the games made for you?"

    I would like to add The Conduit to Patricks list and formally stand behind everything he said. Why are gamers complaining about the lack of hardcore titles, but not buying the ones that are released? iS it because Nintendo's constant bad press is turning people off? I'm a Nintendo fanboy, but i am fully aware of my favorite systems flaws.
    The Wii is not the most graghically powerful of the 3 systems. Nintendo did this as a mercy to gamers in these hard times as well as to attract casual gamers, which lets face it, is not the worst business plan ever. And with people downloading 20 year old games, 2D platformers, and indy games gaining in popularity, this seems highly irrelevent. Don't complain to me about how much the Wii's graghics suck and then go pay 15 bucks to download MegaMan9 onto your PS3/360.
    Another "drawback" of the Wii is that its more family oriented. Because Nintendo still believes that its possible to have fun without sodomizing a decapitated corpse. Go figure. But it has been slackening its stance, a perfect example being the afore-mentioned MadWorld. So if its blood people want, why did they skip this game?
    So why aren't Hardcore gamers supporting Nintendo, IF indeed they're not? Are they being affected by bad press? Is Nintendo still doing something wrong? Are people just broke? Agree or Disagree with anything? Any and all comments are welcome.

    Nintendo has just developed such a deeply negative impression from certain gamers that they'll never be able to bring them back.

    Mad World was fun...for one night. Then I never put it back in the Wii...which may have been because it was unplugged

    No More Heroes overrated? Really? I've never played the game myself but i've heard nothing but good things about it. Every review ive read or watched said it was really good. As for Madworld, when i heard about this game i wasnt expecting shakespeare, but it looked like a good time. I like the look of Madworld and the gameplay and premise look original and fun.

    Personally, I thought No More Heroes was quite possibly the most overrated game ever. It seemed like it was right up my alley, ultra violent and hilarious...But it turned out to be extremely repeditive and annoying. That's just my opinion.

    And Mad World looks like a rent at best for me, and so far my judgements only failed me a few times.

    So basically I think that people just aren't interested in the game, not because their mature rating, but because the games look boring to them...This is just my opinion though.
