  1. TempleCon TempleCon comes to GoG!

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Nov 21 2007

So, we've joined GoG, and are pretty happy to see a new gamer-centric social site. We're a multi-genre gaming convention based out of Providence, RI, currently in our third year. We're looking forward to our 2008 event this upcoming February 1-3.

    What is TempleCon?

Templecon. In 2006, it was the place "all roads lead to. " In 2007, we treated gamers "like gods." In 2008, instead of a slogan, we're offering you a theme. This year at TempleCon we bring you a celebration of steam and steel, in a fantastical past that never was. Journey with us into a steampunk world that very well could have been, and examine the rise and fall of an era of unbridled hubris and invention that is occupying the imaginations of people worldwide now more than ever. In more than name alone, TempleCon 2008 is "The Temple of Steam." TempleCon was created by people who sought a gaming convention that catered personally to their desires, so obviously it's important that we listen to fellow gamers. Our 2008 event is a refined culmination of the feedback we've received during our foray into the convention circuit. We've talked to a lot of you, and have clearly heard what you want.

This year, more than ever, we're prepared to make both your vision of a convention and ours a reality. We're not content with just being your usual gaming convention. We believe that one of the more unique aspects of social gaming is the strength of its community, so all of us on the staff are focused on making TempleCon much broader than a simple weekend of frantic competition. We want to strengthen that community with this convention, both locally in New England and worldwide. So, our mission is to provide gamers with a place to meet others and have fun, and more importantly, to be able to do that in luxury and decadence. This year we're increasing our ranks with even more staff and volunteers, and lining up a series of events that will blow your mind. We listened to you when you said you wanted more space to game, and lower per-night room prices, and we've happily brought that to you with our new friends at the Providence Biltmore. Our vendors and artists wanted better suited space that was closer to the action, and this year we've given that to them..

Finally, we're working to continue to expand our range of events so that you'll find something exactly to your taste at TempleCon '08. In addition to our usual selection, we've been talking to both developers and fans to bring a myriad of new events to TempleCon 2008. Along with the big events you're used to at the convention, this year we're working on showing a plethora of art, movies, and music, many of which happen to fit quite well into our brass-clad theme. To further help set the atmosphere we're organizing a massive steampunk costume contest, in addition to a ton of other surprises. There will be more on that, and more, revealed very soon. We're looking forward to it.

Sounds like a great event. How many people do you expect and what kind of attendance have you had in the past? What vendors are you working with as well?
