Eve Online
Player Chronicle -- Posted on Feb 21 2008
Alright, call me outdated, but I had never seen the massive universe of Eve Online until I stopped by Code's house tonight. He opened the game up on his 1080 HD TV and shared with me, only in a NUTSHELL, what this game was all about...needless to say...this was one of the most in depth games I've ever seen!
The gameplay may or may not be the most complex I've seen, but it would rival anything else I've seen in my fairly lengthy gaming career. Obviously I did not have the years it would take to fully understand everything, but the map size blew my mind! It seriously was a universe with different levels of depth and of security! If I ever get into the game, I hope to build my strengths up enough to chill in the 0.0 realm
I'm a total newbie on this game, but that was the fun part as the game really had a cool opportunity to blow my mind Those Icelanders, who developed the game at a company call CCP, must just be up there programming every hour of the day to built such a monstrous game environment, haha. After doing a bit of my own research, I found that it went online quite awhile ago, but it continues to be enhanced and new additions are still being released.
I have to wonder if this company will release something with the same massive multiplayer capabilities, but with a different subject/storyline?! Eve Online does cost around $15/month to be online, so imagine the capabilities!
Any who, this chapter must be short because we only looked at the game for around 15 minutes, but thanks Code, for the eye opening tour

HAX9000
Posted On Feb 22 2008I have played EVE online off and on for a couple years now (I own 3 battleships ) I love that there is no grind...just pick your skill and watch it grow (online AND offline through the EVE website). The main downfall I found was the mission system was a little awkard...mainly due to the fact that the universe is so HUGE. If you like to jump around through random jump gates and venture off the beaten path it can be hard to find your way back. Also there is a rather steep learning curve. There are lots of things to learn about missions, ships, skills, corps (guilds), factions, mining, pirates (evil pod killing pirates) and odd ball things like insurance and jump clones. Lots and lots of stuff to learn, but in the end one of the most in depth MMO experiences around. So Ben, Code, or anyone else if you find Mordeth Ventox out flying about say hi and don't space me! lol
