  1. DeadManFloating Sacred 2

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Dec 05 2008

If you've played Sacred 1 before, you have an idea of what to expect. It stays true to the Diabloesque formula it copied with the utterly huge world to explore. With zooming capabilites to better see your avatar as you chagne your gear, you run around slaugherting mass amounts of creatures from rats to mutated creatures.

Quests come in abundance but follow the basic, collect this or kill that routine unfortunately. But you can't expect much else unless a game had crafting where then you could build stuff for quests. I've read people having done over 400 quests, though I'm not sure if it's for one game mode or all game modes combine. From Bronce, to Silver, Gold then Nobium, it could add up but I don't think so. Lots of running around into the wilderness can get tedious. The escort servies are the worst I have ever seen. There are 3 NPC AI's: simply follow player, follow player but run in fear from enemies attackign towards more enemies to get them to attack, and attack enemies and rush off screen where player can't see enemies and attack them. Except for the first, the other 2 I simply label as, suicidal. They run at the mobs you can't see and if you have to keep them alive, you must kill everything you run across and some you don't. Sometimes the best way is to just keep running and wait for the NPC to reappear next to you after you outpace them. Some of the NPCs are invulnerable and aren't any problem to keep around until you get around to doing their quest. 5/10

World, utterly huge as described before. Counting dungeon space as well, I've got a mere 15% or so and the space I've de-fogged is massive as is already. It may count space that you won't be able to get like the middle of the ocean, but having a huge world where you can throw multiple cities and small villages to pass through definitly adds something. But with the running hither and thither for the quests makes you wish you had faster transport than even the horses provide. Thankfully portal stone are sprinkled about and the latest patch added even more. Boats are instantaneous transport to islands. 8/10

Combat is rather on the boring side. It's easy unless fighting mobs a few levels higher than you and you can get by mostly with just the auto attack feature. But the Combat Arts add nice flourishes and eye candy, and as with my Temple Guardian, his off hand changes depending on the current Art he has selected. He is a robot and changes his hand for the various functions from spraying flames, to a pin point laser, or just using it as another melee attack like a boxing glove. You can even throw at least 2 Arts together into a combo icon where they'll activate one after the other per push, but there is a regen time that only gets higher with it's level, as does its damage. The one problem is that no matter how high you get over the mobs, they will always attack you. Granted mobs that are several levels higher can spot you from the edge of the screen, even gray worthless mobs will attack you if you brush by them. And mobs are EVERYWHERE. It's like swimming in molasses if you go around attacking everything. 7/10

Stability is lacking even a few patches in. I crash randomly though I usually have some warning before it does that I can save it, and even exit it. Quite a number of times, my system is then locked to 800x600 mode with 4 colors and I'm forced to reset in order to get back to a functioning format. 5/10

Graphics aren't anything special and it's not required to be. It's more about the gameplay, but that doesn't mean I want an 8-bit world. The world is stunning and while not the most sophisticated, there are a number of different trees and landscapes littering the world to make you feel like it isn't one set tileset. The armor and weapons you can find changes your characters look, except rings and amulets. I've only found one piece of a set item a la Diablo, but I believe they have their own unique look. A high graphic setting is required to look your best, but it's not hard to achieve. Playing dress up can be fun when you want to put the fear into your opponents. 9/10

Overall a fun game, but the constant crashes, horrible AI and running all over for default quest objectives really put a damper on it. The armor/weapon sets look great and the combat skills are great to watch.

Oh, not really sure if I should just average out the score I gave it or something else altogether so I just rate for each section.

I haven't played either of these titles, but I always enjoy video game reviews from you! The attention to detail, yet easy-to-read attribute makes for a fun time...keep it up and I'll look forward to your next Chronicle soon Very Happy

BTW, did you have an overall rating, or is it just the average of each element that is combined for that?
