3 Star rank on MKWii

So as some of you may know, you can gain 'star' rankings on Mario Kart Wii. It was a chore just to earn a 2-star rank on some of the cups. I still have yet to earn a 3-star rank on any cup.
If you've read my other chronicle, you'd know that my mother pwns at mario kart. Sadly, she has uber-pwned me. She was playing the flower cup, driving as the cheap-cheap car, and earned 3 stars.
My mother doesn't power slide, use micro-turbos, or even get the draft from driving behind enemies. She just....drives. She does use items, but not any different than the rest of us. She literally just drives the course, even passing the shortcuts.
I have tried this strategy and it doesn't work for me. I just don't understand how she pulls it off. I've watched her races, I try to mock those races, and I lose! When I told my friends of this, they as well as I, let out a big sigh of shame. We have lost our dignity. We have been pwn3d by my mom.

We have much to learn from this mother of yours! I'm only up to 1 star on most of the cups, so don't feel too bad
