  1. Gvirus05 Double game weekend

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Dec 14 2008

This was an interesting weekend for me. Two new games fell into my lap to own..one for free and one for a discount. I'll skip the boring stories on how it happened, but I now own Mortal Kombat vs DC Universe and Left 4 Dead.

I'll start with MK, it's fun. Hardcore MK fans might be a little disappointed that not all of their favorites made the cut. There are still heavy hitters like Scorpion, Sub-Zero, Lu KAng, Raiden, etc etc. There is a decent line-up of DC characters as well. Although I'm not too fond of Lex Luthor. Seriously, he's just wearing a suit similar to Marvel's Iron Man. Oh well. Batman, Superman, and the Flash are definately fun. There are other characters such as Green Lantern and the Joker. Overall, this game is pretty fun. The story is decent, I mean, this game is a fighting game. How many of those have storylines? They did incluse the klassic arcade mode and added xbox live matches as well. It is fun to pit your DC favorites againts the MK legends. Definately fun to play with friends. The moves and kombos aren't as tough as in previous MK games. I think they wanted this game to appeal to a younger crown, hence the "T" rating instead of M. (Probably thanks to DC).

Overall, I would give this game a 7.5/10.

    Next game, Left 4 Dead.

I haven't played this game enough to really give any type of review, but here is my insight. I am a big zombie fanatic. I love Romero, Shaun of the Dead, Resident Evil franchise, Dead Rising, etc etc. I guess you can call me a freak when it comes to zombies. Left 4 Dead will be on my list as well. Very Happy Left 4 Dead is a 4-player co-op game. (you can play solo as well, with 3 AI partners). You have to work your way through 4 movies composed of 5 chapters. Each chapter is separated by a safe house, where you can restock ammo, health supplies, etc. This game is nothing short of fun. Zombies are freaky fast and love to beat you up. Some puke on you, bind you with tentacles, and spew smoke. Yeah! That's right, these aren't always ordinary zombies. The majority are, but they have mixed in some type of mega zombie here and there. There are some really fat zombies that explode in blood. There are hunter zombies that jump around like jackals and tear you apart. There are huge Hulk-like zombies that pound you in the ground, as well as witch zombies that scream and really, just, scare the crap out of you. I don't have the exact specifics on all of them yet, I just know they get my adrenaline pumping. Weapons are good for the most part. Handgun with unlimited ammo, although you don't always want to stick with it. You have the classic shotgun, erm, I mean Zombie Repellent. There are also explosives, such as pipe bombs and molotov cocktails. This is definitely a multiplayer game. The AI is okay, but there is nothing like playing with a good friend...which I haven't done yet, just some anonymous xbox live players, which was still a blast. Well, there are my two-cents for the weekend.

    **EDIT**

Just a fun fact I have found out about Left 4 Dead. The female character Zoey is voiced by the same actress who voices Cortana from the Halo games as well as Princess Peach. Didn't say it was going to be revolutionary, just true.

Yeah, I got to play MK vs. DCU at E3 and I was able to try the PC version of Left 4 Dead at this weekend's Games 4 Grins event at Cyber Ops. Both games are cool, but I don't see them being added to my collection at this time.

Thanks for the reviewing Chronicle though and I'll look forward to a rating and more details from your Left 4 Dead experience as you complete the game!

Both games are getting tons of play at our game center, L4D way more than MK vs DCU. Did you get L4D for the 360 or on PC? I prefer the PC version myself, but the WASD-keyboard/mouse combos work best I think for shooters.
