  1. Snot Carpal Tunnel and Gaming

Player Chronicle -- Posted on May 15 2008

I have Carpal tunnel Syndrome in both of my hands. It sucks when you want to play a game but your hands hurt too much. It happens more and more often lately. I guess I could play Mario Kart, since I don't have to push a lot of buttons. I wanted to play Ocarina of Time, though.

God of War is the worst game for people with Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, by the way. I love the game but it HURTS. I physically can not spam buttons like you need to. Pushing any button repeatedly makes my hands stop working. I need to invest in a really good turbo controller.

I have been having nightmares of getting carpal tunnel. If I do, my life would become a lot less interesting Sad

I can't play some PC games. I love Doom and can't play it. My hands lock up.

Thanks, Ben. Anything that can help is good. My doctor thinks I'll need surgery on the right one. The left one might be okay with cortizone shots.

Be glad you don't play just PC games or you'd be really messed up.

I know 9 Ibuprofen a day and physical therapy can start moving towards a better gaming life. Stretching those muscles and wearing wrist braces also help loosen up and strengthen the area that you are trying to work with.

Once you get them back to a decent state, then you might want to use some very light dumbbells (2-4 pounds), and work to strengthen those muscles and joints.

Never thought I'd write this on here, but it is relevant to gaming for sure, haha. Hopefully you'll be playing those button mashing games in no time...and hey, worse case scenario...you can always get into Dance Dance Revolution games, Laughing
