1. Silent Bob Nostalgia

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Mar 28 2008

While browsing PC World online today, I came across a retrospective article (a LONG one, but worth the read - here's the link: http://www.pcworld.com/article/id,143520/article.html) on the now classic Apple IIc.

I was lucky enough to have parents who always encouraged my brothers and I when it came to computers. We had several different computers when most households didn't own a single computer. We weren't spoiled, they just valued education, and we were mostly self-taught on everything we did since my high school only started offering computer courses the year I graduated.

Instead of a car for high school graduation, I got this beauty. It served my needs way better than any car would have. Besides, I had lots of friends who had cars, and Iowa City wasn't exactly a town I needed a car to get around while going to school.

The article's author calls it the MacBook Air of its generation. That's high praise indeed. The "Apple aesthetic" was alive and well even in those days. Hard to believe it was 24 years ago!

It had a few games, but they didn't look very good on its green screen. However, I used a word processor called Word Juggler to write my college papers while others struggled with typewriters and correction fluid. I made boatloads of extra money typing papers for people on my venerable IIc.

After Lord_Santa's C64 mishap he posted about this week, I thought it was my turn for nostalgia.
