  1. IAmSpaz CoD 4 or Halo 3?

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Mar 07 2008

Huge fan of the Halo series. I started with Halo 1 when it first came out and have been playing the Halo series ever since....until recently.

Call of Duty has never caught my attention before, but that was before CoD 4 came out. Ever since I bought the game I have hardly touched Halo 3. I went from playing H3 every day after school to playing CoD.

    Halo Series:

I loved how Halo basically simplified a battle down to who was better by using a combination of skill, out thinking your opponent, and basically who played smarter(more in H1 and H2 than H3)

H3 was sweet when it first came out. All the new stuff kept my interest for a while. I really loved the game theater and being able to review a previously played game. The only thing I dislike about Halo 3 is that it seems like they made it more "noob friendly". Its almost as if someone who never played any of the previous Halos could frag some kids with little to no skill. H1 and H2 actually took some skill.

    Call of Duty 4:

Im new to the CoD series but this game had enough of my friends(previously halo players) telling me it was worth it to go and buy. After playing it for a few months now I am loving this game. I like the fact that you cant just run into a room full of enemy players and kill them all without even getting a scratch...which is something that is pretty easy to do in halo if you have a little skill. I like the whole ability to crouch/prone. I believe it brings a whole new aspect to the game. Being able to run away from an enemy who is chasing you, run around the corner and hide in some grass and become almost invisible makes this game more than just a "run and gun" type of game. Most people bring out the whole "camping" complaint, but all I have to say about that is: camping is a part of any FPS...even Halo...there just isnt any bushes to hide in in Halo. If someone can kill you without moving, over and over again, maybe you just aren't smart enough/using the wrong weapon/dont know the map well enough to kill this person.

(There is much more i could say about CoD but this is getting longer than i thought it would)

Just to compare the two games, I think they both bring something different to the table but i would like to hear other peoples thoughts...I want to hear from people who have put a decent amount of time into each game(and im not talking about taking a break from one and playing a game or two on the other and basing your opinion off of that)

Which game takes more skill? More strategic gameplay? Teamwork? What does each game bring to the table in your opinion. Pros and Cons of each game

Please dont start flaming one game or the other just say what you like/dislike and leave it at that

First of all COD4 is definitely not the first game to get good reviews. They had a pretty good following and great games all the way back to Big Red One. Just because COD doesn't have some league of people who like driving around like drunks doesn't mean it's not popular. I hate how people always try to defend Halo with it's multiplayer. Especially when you look back at the first game of the series. Seriously what do you see in it? There's really nothing that hadn't been done before. The weapons are pretty much the same (sure plasmas were a lil different but basically the same and generally not as good) unless you like crappy and completely screwed up physics (which by the way were frowned up until this game for some reason). Also just the feel of the multiplayer is just completely wrong to me. Sure it may be fun to pick up and play for a few minutes but it gets old quick. Most people pretty much just run around like a chicken with it's head cut off. I also don't like the general lack of strategy. Games such as Gears and COD4 have a pretty good amount of strategy from picking your weapon class to interacting with the map and your teammates but in Halo all you can really do is memorize the player and weapon spawns, try to get the "good" weapons, and camp. One huge flaw in Halo is the storyline. What it basically boils down to is your boring basic SciFi. Some aliens with extremely advanced technology show up and take for no apparent reason and the human races only hope is to turn to some secret government program. Yawn. And that's not the worst. Just the flow of the game is enough to make me wanna watch reruns of Friends and chuch the disk out the window. It's prretty much just swarms of slightly varying aliens in small groups at a time. I can't explain it exactly how I'd like but it's just too mundane ane repetitive. COD4's is just much better, 'nuff said. I've got more to say but I've already have to rewrite this once and I'm tired for now so that's all I've got to say.

Halo 3 has some amazing, ground breaking features and a great community, but thats about it...
I love the save films and I wish they would have that for all multi-player games. Forge is a great feature giving the player endless possibilities, only limited to ones imagination. Its just that the game play is so repetitive and it seems like you always die the same way. Shoot, Charge, Melee. Another big issue is the lag! I have never played a game where the lag is so bad! It takes away from the online experience sooooooo much. In Call of Duty 4 the game play never gets old. The main thing that keeps it lasting longer than 10 hours (how much time halo 3 kept me interested) is the perks. It makes the online experience rich and deep. You could play for days just to unlock all the camo, challenges, perks, and weapon add ons. Another great feature- shooting threw walls. This gives the game a very realistic feel. In most games someone can just hide behind a wooden fence to escape a few bullets. Not in Call of Duty 4... there is no greater satisfaction of a kill than getting one threw a wall. And at least Call of Duty 4 isn't plagued with immature racist 12 year olds. I swear every time I try to play Halo 3, I get a high pitched voice screeching threw the microphone. For the sake of time I'm not going to delve into which campaign is better. That is just too obvious =p.
Both are great games, but when compared- Call of Duty 4 reigns supreme.

I will always put Halo ahead of COD. COD 4 was the first game of the COD series to really catch a large amount of peoples attention and Halo has been doing that since combat evolved. I also think that Bungie put a lot more effort into Halo as I read many updates on how long it took them to just get the water perfect in the game. The multiplayer is what really gets me though. In COD better players start with better weapons, thats fair.....not. Anybody can just pick up a controller and easily get a kill in call of duty. In Halo you also don't have any CPU controlled choppers to back you up. You have to rely on you and your teamates. I would also like to point out that it is a lot easier to use the weapons effectively in COD. In Halo a skilled person will never get out BRed. COD on the other hand does let you create your own class of weapons but I like Halo because everyone starts with the same weapon and then has to adapt to a level and the weapons that are placed on it. Well I am tired of explaining why Halo is superior so I am going to bed. I will make another post after somebody else tries to defend COD horribly(not saying Spaz did I just know someone will)
