GoG Member Spotlight
Player Chronicle -- Posted on Sep 01 2010
Hey guys, CpE_Wahoo here. I just wanted to make a chronicle real quick to say thanks to BEN and the rest of the GoG community for the GoG Member Spotlight bestowed upon me this week! Here's a little bit about myself...
Name: Ryan Bulaclac
Age: 21
Hometown: Chesapeake, VA (SoVA ftw)
Current City: Charlottesvile, VA
Occupation: 4th Year student at the University of Virginia
Major: Computer Engineering with a focus in Computer Science
I've been a gamer since my older brother brought home a Nintendo. Back then I was too busy playing with the actual game cartridges in the toilet (sorry Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles! The game was too hard anyways). I started playing competitively with my first online game on the Playstation 2 with SOCOM: US Navy Seals. More recently, I've taken gaming more seriously, and have been competing in tournaments in Halo 3, Super Street Fighter 4, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
I'm an avid Major League Gaming fan. I wasn't super serious into Halo 3, but I competed at MLG Orlando for the National Championships in the Open Bracket back in January. This past weekend, I competed in Super Smash Bros. Brawl at MLG Raleigh. With Halo: Reach on the horizon, my sights are set on that, and I plan on focusing my gaming there. I will 100% be competing at MLG D.C. in October for Halo: Reach. If not playing, I will be there coaching for my brother's team.
I guess one of the biggest reasons why I was chosen for the spotlight is what went down in Raleigh this past weekend. My buddy Ed has a Gumby costume from two Halloween's ago, and we decided it would be awesome to have him coach my Halo 3 team. The team didn't pan out, and so I switched my pass to Brawl, but Ed was still adamant about wearing the costume. We were at first worried that he wouldn't be let in, but we ran into no problems, and walked in with everyone watching him go down the escalators down to the main floor.
Gumby doesn't talk, so we had a dry erase board for him to walk around with during the event to communicate with people. He was an instant hit with everyone, from the kids, to the models at the sponsor booths, to the higher-ups at MLG (Nexy saw him and decided it would be fun to have him walk in and interrupt the guys doing a pre-game show for the Tekken 6 stream), and even the Halo pros.
With that, I'd again like to thank the staff at GoG for the member spotlight, and hope to game with a lot of the community here soon. Feel free to add me on XBL if you want to run Halo: Reach games with me in 2 weeks. I'm looking to really step up my game for Reach and do some big things in D.C.
Before I go, some Gumby fun from the weekend.

From the MLG forums:
"The coolest person I met for the first time at Raleigh was Gumby....no
joke...right after one of our series he came up with a dry erase board
that said "Go Purgatory!!!" and I kinda couldn't help myself. I said
something along the lines of..."your not the real Gumby...the real Gumby
doesn't walk...he slides..." he casually erased his board and wrote "I'm
sorry, I left my Heelies at home." That was probably one of the
funniest moments in my 3 years with the circuit. Thank you Gumby for
your appearance =]"
