  1. A-Thon X PS3 goes Slim

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Sep 02 2009

Sequels. For the most part they're an inferior, cheaper version of a pre-existing product. I've always considered the slim versions of sony's platforms to be like sequels. Less in every way, only capable of doing the bare minimum of what it was designed for. In fact, didn't some PS2 games crash on the PS2 Slim, if i'm not mistaken?

Anyway, I don't have a problem with the Slim line, quite the opposite, they're usually the only one's i buy. Being a Nintendo fanboy and also flat broke, i find that the Slims allow me to expand my gaming experience for fairly cheap. So i can start off with my Nintendo and then when times get a little easier, i can can the cheaper slim and i don't have to settle for just one console, because N-fanboy i may be, i would get every gaming system known to man if i had the money. (even the Virtua-Boy)

And thats the whole point of the Slim line. At the end of the current cycle when the original has brought in just about as much as it can, you slim it down, cut the fat, remove unnecessary bells and whistles and make it available to those who might not have bought it otherwise. Which was a little sooner than expected with the PS3, which kinda says something.

Now Sony has come down from the mountain and amidst holy fire and glory and majesty blessed us with the PS3 Slim. Volume, weight, and thickness have been lowered to 67% of the original (http://www.e-techgadget.com/ps3-slim-goes-official.php) Power usage is also way down (by a third) So you won't have to listen the that engine purrr while Kratos sips tea by candle light and reads poetry. Also forget about dusting for prints to see whose been handling your honey, the Ps3 Slim sports a textured surface.

The biggest selling point, however is the fact that the "cheap, inferior" version has TWICE the memory of the previous one. 120 Gb to fatboys paltry 60 Gb. Of course there were a few other cuts, but nothing you'll miss. It still plays Blu-ray, still great online, more storage for all your online shenanigans. Its not as advanced as the original, but in a lot of ways it is better.

But enough boring techno jargon. how much is the damage on this bad boy? Isn't that why the first mega-ultra-super-terrific PS3 fell in last in the first place? (huh?)Because of the price? Well this one's only going to set you back $299 American, which is actually less than i paid for my Wii. ( In the Wii's defense it was a bundle pak)
Like i said, I love Nintendo, but i would own all three systems
if it were even remotely possible. With the 360 Arcade version and now the PS3 Slim, it just might be.

Thx man. Did you own PS3 Phat ( as i've heard it called)? If so i'd be interested in a comparison.
