  1. MGC 2009 Speakers at MGC 2009

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Mar 10 2009

Along with all the vendors, tournaments, and museum at MGC, there are several speakers that will be attending to give presentations a wide array of subjects.

    Mark Bakula and Don Caldwell

Mark Bakula and Don Caldwell are popular speakers every year at the Midwest Gaming Classic for introducing people who don't own any games to the world of collecting, and providing a unique and funny spin on the collection that people who have collected hundreds of games still like to appreciate and can even learn from! This year, Mark and Don will discuss what risks there are in buying a game at an auction, and the things you should look at if you take the risk of buying a game without knowing exactly who you're buying it from.

    Marty Goldberg

Marty Goldberg is a fixture of the Midwest Gaming Classic. With the show since planning for the first one began, Marty has his hands in many different projects and has some more fascinating stories to discuss this year! Marty works with the group Legacy Engineering to help create and promote new products, and will tell the full story of the Gene Simmons Guitar Hero guitar (which he will have the original prototype of at the show!), as well as their USB Atari 2600 Joysticks and other goodies for people to check out!
    Lloyd Olson

There may be no one as dedicated to pinball as Lloyd Olson. As the owner of SS Billiards, Lloyd owns and operates one of the best pinball locations in the United States. Known for having the cleanest and best maintained games in the country, as well as a spectacular selection of titles, SS Billiards is a mecca for those seeking the silverball. Also known for always being willing to help others with his wisdom online through the rec.gaming.pinball group, Lloyd is a fixture in the pinball scene. Lloyd will be talking about what it is like to own and operate a pinball location in the United States today, and what he sees as the future of pinball from the eyes of a current location owner and operator.

    Jim Schelberg

The PinGame Journal is a fixture in the pinball world, and Jim Schelberg is the man behind this amazing publication which chronicles all aspects of the pinball hobby. Jim will be displaying a spectacular set of clips of pinball machines in the media, as well as giving a little background on exactly how this iconic American game has influenced us both on TV and on the silver screen!

    John Trudeau

John Trudeau has been involved with pinball for years! He is known for some unique games, such as Rocky, Q*Bert's Quest to some extremely popular titles like Creature from the Black Lagoon and Bride of Pinbot. With all of his ideas and designs throughout one of the most experimental phases in pinball development, it is always fascinating to hear what he thinks about the pinball world!

    Special Presentations

Tilt: The Battle to Save Pinball

When Greg Maletic decided to make a documentary about pinball, he focused on a unique topic -- the manufacturers themselves. "Tilt: The Battle to Save Pinball" traces the amazing story of the challenge to invent pinball, the amazing success that the Williams team had with the Pinball 2000 platform, and the ultimate downfall of pinball at Williams. The documentary will be shown each day at 10:30 in the speaking hall.
