Player Chronicle -- Posted on Mar 22 2009

This was a great tournament. Very well organized, and the turnout was great. Despite not being able to play Dynafire of ZMaine, there was a good amount of competition. Ben (Link) was surprisingly much more skilled at the game than he was back in October. Someone played keyboard style, and their was a small kid (7-8 years old, possibly?) that was great for just starting. RyuBlitz beat me out last time back in October, so I knew I had some strong competition with him.

Overall it was quite fun. The most fun I've actually had playing Guitar Hero with others. My first match I played BYOB, and beat the person by a good amount. (I had 395k) My second match was Trapped Under Ice. I've practiced this song a A TON lately, but I just didn't do well for my standards. I still won, but was glad that I didn't play someone like Ryu or Link at the song.

Then me and RyuBlitz had the first encounter of the tournament for the Winners bracket championship. The song was Judas Kiss by Metallica. I have not really ever practiced this song much, and I missed a ton towards the beginning of the song. I hit the solo under SP and got a quick 30k~ to tie the game up. I was so nervous I was practically shaking. (I hear Ryu broke a sweat during the song!) I missed a few more easier notes, leading Ryu into a strong victory over me.
I was sent to the losers bracket, where I played That Was Just Your Life. I won by a good amount, and I didn't ever doubt myself because I have 3rd place on this song for the XBL leaderboards, and I was the 2nd person to FC it on GH:WT. I knew the optimal starpower path... Sorry Wink

That win sent me back up into the championship against Ryu. I heard that I had to beat him twice to be the champion. I was nervous, but very certain I could come out. We played Broken Beat and Scarred, and came out with a strong victory. (This is one of those songs that I used to play a ton, was first to FC it on GH:WT, and had 1st place on the XBL leaderboards for months)

The final song was BYOB. I never really thought of this song as being one of my better songs, but I was playing it very good earlier so I thought it was a good choice. I won, by an alright lead because I kept a combo on the fast strumming parts a lot.

Overall, Ryu is a very consistant player. I'm more of the "Just give me a solo to FC" guy. (I miss a lot of random easy stuff when I'm nervous) Had we played an easy song such as Heartbreaker or Livin' on a Prayer, I would have lost.

Had a ton of fun, thanks for hosting this awesome tournament. Hope to see everyone back in Ankeny next time for the CyberOps GH:Metallica tournament. (I will kill for one of those signed Guitars, not kidding.)

I would just like to take a moment to congratulate our winner, and also poke Silent_Bob. I second this opinion on the signed guitar prize. I would play until i callused my fingers, just to beat Awolter for one of these things...
