  1. E3 2008 Midway News @ E3 2008

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jul 16 2008

As we entered our first private room at E3, it was cool to see the company’s elaborate setup. Midway had around 10 HD televisions, a cool red environment, and demos of many upcoming games. We focus and highlight them below…

    This Is Vegas
Party, Fight, Race, or Gamble...those are your choices as you visit this virtual version of the Las Vegas strip. We sat down with the Executive Producer, Chris Klimecky (who also did The Suffering), as he took us on an in depth look at this very exciting game being developed by Midway and will be released in Spring 2009.

The Surreal Software team has been working with Midway for over 3 years to develop this wide open world of partying. Chris showed us the many different elements within this virtual sin city. It was fun seeing him serve drinks at the bar, dance it up on the dance floor, and keep the creeps out of the club by beating them up in and outside of the clubs and casinos. We didn’t look at the racing or gambling elements in the game, but the game’s approach was clear and wide open.

It was funny, but appropriate, that Chris could do almost anything within the game and pass/dominate the task or challenge, haha. The game felt like the GTA series, but with a lighter, more fun and arcade flavor to it. With so much to do in this game, I’d suggest picking it up only if you have a lot of time to enjoy the details.

    Mortal Kombat vs. DC Comics
After getting in trouble for videoing within the private Midway room, the Executive Producer of this game was excited to show us this ground breaking Mortal Combat game. He had worked on past Mortal Kombat games, but this was one that he was especially excited about.

With characters from both popular series, this 1v1 fighting game uses some cool new moves, a lot of bold graphics, and a touch from the games we all have loved before. New moves, character damage, map interactivity, and 3-d elements…this is a better looking game than I had expected!

I won’t be buying this game, but I could see it doing fairly well with a lot of gamers. I’d say rent it for sure.

    Blitz The League 2
We didn’t get a personal tour of this game, but I wanted to be sure you all knew it was coming. I don’t think the league title did as well as the original Blitz, but if they’re making another one, it has to be good to a certain extent! Lawrence Taylor is once again the iconic character in this arcade football game.

    Unreal Tournament III
I had a chance to personally play this one. Maybe it was set on super easy, but I had never played the game before and I ended up winning a deathmatch with 20 kills and 0 deaths! The entire game felt like Gears of War, but it was decent fun anyways.

I know there’s a lot of Unreal fans out there, so I won’t be mean, but this is not a game I would get into very easily.

    Others
TNA Impact, Touch Master 2 (DS), Vin Diesel’s Wheelman, Game Party 2 (Wii), and Mechanic Master (DS) where a few of the other titles that Midway was sharing. This company, based out of Chicago, had a nice booth and it was a pleasure getting the inside scoop on what’s coming from this classic, but edgy development firm!
