Mario Kart - First Review

We got the new Mario Kart this morning and started playing right away, so I figured I'd give a quick review of it. It's a great family game but can be frustrating for the younger ones. They destroyed the battle mode, which was fine before.
The introduction of the wheel makes for better control and an arcade feel. The game comes with a wheel, but if you are like me, married to a gamer with 2 little gamers in training, you'll need to buy more. Game Stop has their own style of wheel that retails for $10.00. It has a comfortable rubber grip that comes in either red or blue with a white plastic housing. Game Crazy sells an Intec wheel, which glows. It's milky white with blue LEDs which are controlled by a toggle switch on the back of the wheel. The new Wii straps will not fit through the hole provided, but it still looks cool. This retails for $10.00 also. Wii has put out their own wheel that is pretty nice but to it costs more. It is plain white and looks more like a normal steering wheel than the others, which look more like the old Spy Hunter arcade ones.
There are a lot of additional perks to this game, of course. They have unlockable levels and characters. You can play online, as a team, battle mode, single player, and VS. You can also see your miis in the levels. There is nothing like having Charles Manson and Darth Vader waving at you while speeding through a track and trying to hit Donkey Kong with a turtle shell to put a smile on your face.
All in all, I'd say this is a very entertaining game that should provide many hours of fun for the whole family!

Posted On Apr 28 2008We're stupid. I just read that it IS possible to turn off the AI. Battle will be much better that way. The balloon battle does suck, though. I wish it went back to the old way, and when your three balloons were popped, you were out.
