  1. johnbiz10301 GoGame Review #9- Assassin's Creed 2

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Dec 07 2009

I'm about half way through this game so I decided to review it now so I could review the 3 other games i'm planning to review. Sorry the reviews are taking so long, with so many games coming out, school, and basketball, i'm in a bit of a crunch on time here.

Assassin's Creed 2 is the sequel to the very popular Assassin's Creed. This game takes place in Italy in the 1400 and a little bit in modern day time. Your character name is Ezio when you are in the 1600 and the modern day character is Desmond. Desmond's family has a long line of assassins, Ezio being one of them. The plot of the game is to attempt to over throw the, I don't know what you would call it, a gang in Italy, which killed your father and brother. You, as Desmond are sent into the animus to attempt to regain memories from Ezio.

The graphics and sound of this game are great. The music is very Italian restaraunt like when your in a calmer section of the game, and when it is more intense somewhat like an Italian Jaws I guess, more fast paced, anticipating kind of music. The sound on Eagle jumps are incredible. An Eagle jump is when you jump of a certain spot of a building, you will recognize it by the flock of birds and the gray spot on the building, and land into a hiding zone, these protect you from guards. The sounds effects are sound so much like a real hawk, I know it is an Eagle jump, it is incredible. The graphics are pretty stunning as well. The outfits in game are incredible designed and look extremely realistic. The cut scenes look really nice as well. I know there was some people saying they felt like they were in a movie while they played this game, I personally do not feel like I am in a movie when I play the game, however, I do think the plot of a game would make an absolutely incredible movie if they wanted to do that.

When I was on the GoGcast Wednesday there was a lot of discussion about the fighting/sneaking ratio and how most people don't like sneaking around the whole game. I would agree, sneaking around the whole time would not be fun, but I think this game has a pretty good balance to it. There is also times where you can kill someone and be sneaking at the same time. Since this game is about assassination, the game is obviously going to be someone sneaky, a real assassin isn't just going to run around killing people, however, there are a lot of chances you will get to kill some, and need to kill someone, by being sneaky, which really adds some fun to the game. For an example, say you are climbing a roof, there are 4 guards on top of the roof, if you alert 1, you alert them all. You have climb the roof, be as sneaky as possible, and kill the guard without the other 3 finding you. I think the overall the game has a really nice balance, there was one part I can remember with how much I've played that was super boring and really difficult because all you were doing was climbing around, but that is the only time I can think of that I can say the game was outright boring thus far.

WARNING: SPOILERS OF ASSASSINATIONS IN NEXT SECTION OF REVIEW

The assassination and fighting techniques in this game are so fun. We all know about the double hidden blades, you can do some pretty sweet stuff with them. Here is a list of the techniques and my made up names for them.

Original- simply come up from behind and stab them or in front of them if your in a fight.

Eye gouge- using double blades, gouge the enemy in the eye.

Double kill- this game be done 2 ways, either 2 guards in front of you and you stab then both in the face, or 2 on the both sides of you and you stab them both in the face.

Rapid fire- Go up to a guard during a fight and alternate blades to the stomach for a total of 4 stabs, 2 per blade.

Free fallin'- climb up a building undetected, stab the guard in the back, and throw him of the building

Aerial assault- jump off a building and assassinate someone.

    END SPOILER

There are other weapons in the game, I only use blades, swords, and fists, but since Ezio's main weapon is blades, those are the only ones I decided to describe, the other ones are pretty self explanatory, fists, you punch people, sword, you just fight till you either stab them, they just die, or you go samari on there head with it. Also, another good tactic I found is to throw people of building/walls, makes fights much easier when all you have to do is grab them and throw, make sure you don't fall however.

This game is really fun, a good game to add to your Christmas wish list if you haven't already got it planned out yet.

Are you able to skip the cut scenes in between missions? I remember in the first one you were not able to do that and I caught my self dozing off a couple of times while they were talking! lol

Not to be picky, but it's actually set in the 1400s. Late 1400s to be specific.

And it's more like a templar mafia than a templar gang. :P

    Good review! Keep them coming
