  1. BEN Basic FPS Tips

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jul 31 2008

Here's a list of 8 essential tips for almost any multiplayer first-person shooter! There's alot more than just aiming and firing, so here we go...

    Learn The Map
This is the most important element in an online FPS match. Weapon and item locations, as well as, being able to move correctly doing a fire fight is key to almost any FPS type of game.

    Never Stop Moving
By checking your sides and especially moving during a fire fight, you can make the enemy miss. Side stepping and moving backwards while in a fight should be second nature, even if you're sniping. The trick is to still be able to hit your own target! haha

    Flank Your Opponent
There's no shame to shooting your opponent in the back. It just means you're a quieter and more stealthy player who know the map!

    Turn Up Your Sensitivity Settings
This one's hard to do, because you can get used to a certain setting and it may be hard to shift it around. If you can do it though, it will allow you to have even faster response. Imagine if it took you half the time to spin around and start firing back on someone who has just flanked you!

    Know Your Clip
Unloading an entire clip is often the first way of being caught off guard. Know how many bullets you have and reload on your own terms. Tapping the fire button is also a good idea, instead of just holding down the trigger until your out of bullets. Since your first shot will most likely be your most accurate shot, use it well! How many times have you gone to shoot someone and you're out of bullets before the fight is over...or even worse, before it even begins! How embarrassing, right?!

    Kill Priority
Take on the weaker opponents before challenging the big dog. Why not grab a few quick kills before matching up with someone that may take you out. This will also put you in a groove that may give you a slight advantage over the better player on the opposing team.

    Communicate
If you're playing split screen or in the same room, you'd be talk with your teammates about opponent location, weapon distribution, and the game situations so if you're playing a team-based game, be sure to do the same online. I realize talking into the microphone is quite like real life, but communicating with your team can give you a real edge over the opponent that may not know each other and might not be talking at all!

    Listen
If you have surround sound, use it! Being able to hear footsteps or a near by fire fight can help give you a slight edge over that person who has to play with the sound really low, because it's late at night, lol.
    _________

So there's a few tips that I'm sure many of you already know, but I wanted to throw those thoughts into a Chronicle as a reminder, even for myself! Maybe I'll work on some more advanced tips and develop a follow up post Wink

Nice job. all realy good tips for beginers. i do however disagree with the faster sensitivity. I play on a very high lvl on halo. and iv noticed that u should stick with wut is easer for u (i use a 2 sens.). being able to turn fast is nice but when ur in a battle against somone u will actualy wanna hit them and not have ur aimer all over the place. but i do see ur point
