Player Chronicle -- Posted on Nov 25 2007

Well, I picked up this new skateboarding game from EA Sports. I've been wanting to play for awhile, so I was excited to rock it on the Xbox 360. I've only played it one day so far and it's only a 5 day rental, but here are my initial responses...

I was immediately drawn in by the movie-like intro that flowed VERY well. I won't give it away, but you get hit by a bus before the game even starts!

Once I started playing, I boldly skipped the beginning tutorials, which I now wish I would have at least glimpsed at. Being a Tony Hawk fan, my idea of a skateboarding game was somewhat connected to that game's controls. I quickly found out they are much different in EA Sport's version of skateboarding.

The controls are logical, but still very hard to get used to. I could see how that difficulty would be great if you owned the game and had weeks to perfect your form, but I only rented this bad boy and I'm getting frustrated by the early challenges. Long story short, if you buy this game, watch and learn with the tutorials, so you can have a solid knowledge base of the unique controls to get started with!

The store and character development seemed very EA Sports-like. That's not a good or a bad thing, but I just made the connection. Maybe the most like Tiger Woods games, where you're always trying to jack up your gear.

I haven't played online yet, but hope to check that portion of the game out soon!

I'll keep this short since I'm still such a noob, but in conclusion I would say if you love skateboarding, you'll like the complexity and uniqueness of Skate. If you're just looking for a fun, high-flying, action packed skateboarding video game, this might not be one to buy.

I'm going to start a new personal ranking system. 1-5 Shocked , 5 being the highest rank...

    RANK: Shocked Shocked Shocked
