  1. BEN Halo 3: ODST - Firefight Review

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Sep 28 2009

So after playing Halo 3: ODST at a Cyber Ops Release Party last weekend, I jumped over and picked up this Halo 3 add-on, turned full game release.

As I've shared, E3 2009 and numerous people sharing their thoughts around here, had given me an initial idea of what this game would be. I knew it would satisfy some people, disappoint some people, and surprise a lot of people. After picking up Halo 3:ODST in the first week of its release, I'm here to share some more directed thoughts on the game.

Of course, I'm yet to start the campaign, but I heard it's around a 4-5 hour experience if you have a few friends to help you out...so I have no insight for you on this element of the game yet, haha, but hit me up if you want to work our way through it sometime.

So without playing the campaign of this game, you might be asking yourself what I HAVE done with the game so far, right? Well it's a short answer. I've only played Firefight so far, lol...I haven't even put the multiplayer disc (which is separate) into the 360 yet. I know I'm missing out on the three new multiplayer maps, but I'll get to that I'm sure. Let's keep in mind I've only had the game for a few days Wink

Nonetheless, I want to share some thoughts on the Firefight mode.

With the overwhelming success of FPS games having modes where people can team up and fight off never ending enemies, it's no surprise that it's just as great within the Halo universe. If you've enjoyed Horde Mode in Gears of War 2 or Nazi Zombies in Call of Duty: World at War, you've already got a good idea what Firefight is all about. SURVIVAL.

You can play up to 4 players at once and if I was to compare Horde Mode, Nazi Zombies, and this new Firefight Mode; I'd have to say this new Firefight mode seems to have the most thought and effort committed to it. Numerous and different sized maps are one of the things that tell me there was a lot of effort put into this game type. The multiplayer medals and use of teamwork also makes for a great time with friends.

I'd say the only thing that could have been more fleshed out, is the types of enemies you fight. Last night RyuBlitz and I played for a whopping 2 straight hours on a single game and after passing the achievement mark and realizing how long we'd been playing, it started to get old.

I also dislike the fact that you can only have 2 players locally, can't join a game mid-match, and the entire game is lost if a teammate gets disconnected. Other than those minor annoyances, I have enjoyed this game a lot.

So far, RyuBlitz and I have the best score in my experience. Like I said, we played for 2 hours as we hit just passed the 400,000 point mark and got to level 4 as a team.

Initial Conclusion - If you don't have Halo 3, BUY THIS as you get all the multiplayer maps. If you already have Halo 3 and have $50-$60 to burn on a short campaign and this neat Firefight Mode, BUY THIS. If these two descriptions don't sound like you...I might suggest you wait until this game goes down in price, unless you're like me and just can't stand friends on your friends list playing a new Halo game without you Wink

Crazy! I love this game! I so loved firefight as it was never ending.. Now wouldn't that be our luck they would have to keep flying in more of these goons to jump us as well one plane load would not handle our awesomeness at Halo 3! No not when we are ODST trained! :P

Wondering what this Chronicle's photo is all about? It's me and the main man Shishka, who is the Community Manager at Bungie.

He was the guy running the Halo 3:ODST demo at MLG Dallas 09, so I thought it fit this ODST Chronicle well Very Happy
