  1. BEN 100th GoG Chronicle

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Nov 17 2008

Well, the time has come to write my 100th Chronicle here on GatheringofGamers.com. This community has been so good to me and I’ve loved helping to develop such a unique, exciting, and positive place just for us gamers!

Although these Chronicles have a lot of room to be polished, I’ve enjoyed using them to track my gaming world. I know we’re always working to enhance this social network, so I’m sure we’ll move towards an even better Chronicle tool in the future. I’d like to see it continue to be ranked, but move even closer to being a full and personal blogging-type of tool.

I haggled over what my century-marked GoG Chronicle should be about and I couldn’t come up with just one thing, so I figured what a better way to cross this mile marker than to share a few of the recent gaming-related things I’ve been enjoying lately. This Chronicle already has some length and I’ve only finished the introduction, so excuse my windy fingers, haha…but here we go!

Alright, I’m personally just starting to come down from our NYC adventure, where we rocked Times Square during a Guitar Hero: World Tour tournament we helped develop for Massive Incorporated. It was not only a great event, but Massive is a company I could find myself working for someday. They develop advertising and big client relations within video games, which I’ve shared in many other places, but this is a cool company and I look forward to crossing paths with them again soon. Until then, I just sent off a media DVD full of photos and highlight videos from the big event in the Big Apple and I do have a red Massive face plate on my Xbox 360, which is awesome and reminds me where GoG has taken us so far.

Speaking of Xbox 360, there have been a bunch of new games releasing recently and although I don’t plan to pick them all up, I decided to start by grabbing FarCry 2 and Call of Duty: World at War. I was able to play FarCry 2 with the lead AI Director of the project at E3 2008, so knowing how much work went into the randomness, physics, and AI of this game made me want to try it out on my own. We’re planning to pick up an HD television after Thanksgiving, so I’m going to wait and try it on that monster!

Call of Duty: World at War was decent when I played it for the first time, but I found myself wanting more, so I had to pick this one up as well. Being a huge CoD4 fan, I’m really enjoying the game and am at a level 21, with 418 Kills and 402 Deaths. I can’t complain much about the game and with a positive Kill/Death ratio, I probably shouldn’t say much about how I feel like the accuracy of the game is not as good as CoD4, haha, maybe I’m just still learning the ways of the world…at War, lol.

Another awesome thing that happened recently was last week’s GoG Game Night. SIDE NOTE: the past few weeks have been a bit weird since we were in NYC, then had a live gathering at my place, but with Gears of War 2 and Call of Duty: World at War coming up, we’ll get things back on track for sure. Zach, Joe, and I had a smorgasbord of all these new games I mentioned and enjoyed a night of trying them all! Fallout 3, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Gears of War 2, FarCry 2, and Call of Duty: World at War were all at our disposal and I picked up more gamerscore points than I ever have in one sitting! If we would have had Fable 2, we may have been able to say that every big named new game was at this party, but it was still a great time and an evening of gaming my brains out Very Happy

Now, looking ahead, I suppose the main thing on my mind is our next event opportunity in Pittsburgh. We were contacted by the city’s science center and we’ll be working to connect our services and put on an even bigger show than what we did during The Inaugural Gathering of Gamers IMAX Tournament, which we held here in Des Moines, Iowa. The tentative plan is for me to jump over there for a site visit, but more information will come as it is developed. (As always, the company blog is a quick place to find those updates.)

The other thing that is much bigger, but can’t be discussed too much is the releasing of our company’s new identity. As I said, not much can be said, but come January 2009, we’ll have some exciting and huge news.

Lastly and to finish this fine Chronicle off, I thought I’d say a few things about this project and how excited I am about its development. I’m going to wait for a “Year in Review” type of Chronicle to look back in more detail, but with almost 2,300 GoG members, I can honestly say we have a good thing going here. This community has opened up so many awesome doors and I could have never imagined, at the end of this year I would have ran numerous gaming tournament in Des Moines (including one on an IMAX), travel to Orlando for Microsoft Tech-Ed, get invited to E3 in Los Angeles, rock New York City TWICE, jump up to Minneapolis, be amazed at MLG Dallas, attend a MLG private pro LAN in Chicago, and maybe even visit Pittsburgh for development of our next big event! Not bad for our first full year, but I always give credit to this video game community and I truly feel “Fueled By www.GatheringofGamers.com”.

Me and my team are committed to continuing this unique and fun social network just for gamers like us and as some of you know, my goal is to see 10,000 members join us within 3-4 years of going online, so let’s all continue to stay active, spread the word tirelessly, and make this place truly great. I know we’re not the most technically advanced place on the web, but the simplicity and family friendly environment is what I believe will continue to set the GoG apart from the rest.

I suppose my closing statement within this monumental GoG Chronicle, would be to encourage YOU to either get involved or stay involved with this project. We need people like you to stay energized and find new ways to enhance this community. With my 100th GoG Chronicle, that is my century-marking request…

That is a great 100th chronicle. I can only hope mine is as good as this. Wink I'll be sure to keep active in posting new chronicles and referring members here, and I'm really looking forward to what the next year has to offer. Here's to GoG! Ninja
