  1. WHiTEGiRRRL Female Gamers

Player Chronicle -- Posted on May 11 2009

Why is it that it such a "crime" for females to play games. I believe I'm speaking for all us girls when I say this. Personally I cannot go through a day of playing any game online without being called the usual obscene nonsense that these guys come up with. Ladies, have you noticed the ones who talk their ish all say the exact same thing.

Most of my Gears of War 2 games consist of this...

Before the game even starts guys are the first to open up and say something like "girls don't play games" or "look at these tricks in the room thinkin they something, shouldn't you be in the kitchen slut". I usually respond with a smart remark like "don't quit out sweetheart". After a couple rounds pass the ish talking continues and progresses. I just don't know why most guys can't take in the fact that WHiTEGiRRRL is better then them. ESPECIALLY AT GEARS OF WAR. A GAME THAT I SPEND HOURS A DAY PRACTICING AND COUNTLESS DAYS TRAVELING AROUND THE US FOR EVENTS!

Anyways back to the story. So the ish talking continues. They start to attack my gamertag (ex. Whitegirl? She must be running that wack internet from her trailer in bumfunk of nowhere.) and have stereotype remarks of what most "uneducated" people think of gamer girls (ex. fat, ugly, braces, glasses).

Well that is all fine and dandy. I sit in front of my T.V. most of the time not even trying in ranked rooms (laying down, eating, laptop open, music blaring, smoking ciggies) because in all actuality, ranked doesn't mean ish to me. If I were actually trying like in a Gamebattles or a scrim practicing with my MLG team none of those things would even be near me. Complete concentration when I'm actually trying.

To end this story, the ish takers end up losing. They most likely have a sorry attitude for the rest of their pathetic night and my gamertag planted in their brain for eternity. I say that because this line I'm about to share with you all completely sends the ish talkers through the roof! After myself and the lovely ladies I'm playing with that night win the match.... ..::Giggles to self::.. I say "Hey boys, how do you feel right now... You just got slapped by a bunch of girls".

So now that you know how the majority of my Gears of War games turn out I would just like to know... Why? Why am I as a female "not aloud" to play video game to some people.... Guys say "Oh its a girl. pfftt NO LIFE" and continue to talk ish. Wrong, Full time student / full time job / full time Gears of War competitor.

That's a pretty hell of a life to me

Lol, I GoW seems pretty intense in Halo 3 and CoD5 most players are surprised to see a girl playing and send them friend requests (Know from experience with my friends sister playing). It is pretty funny but I have heard crude remarks which doesn't mean much until the game is over. Best of the best wins and unfortunately the guys who diss girls the most about playing games are usually the ones that lose to them.

Most advanced players accept the fact that some girls are better then some guys and some guys are better then some girls. Games are played/loved by all not just one sexuality and some people just need to learn.

Yes it is quite ridiculous. I may be able to shed some isight on the subject though. Obviously most girls don't play games, so it tends to be a rare find. Guys are very sexual beings by nature (this is 100 percent natural), but a lot less mature about it at younger ages. So when they find a girl who has a rare common interest it's natural for them to be attracted. However if their in groups they want to be the alpha male (again, this is embedded in our nature) and want to show off. That's where the stereotypes of women come from.

Some guys just can't control themselves (again especially at younger ages, can't say I'm not guilty of it before, or even the occassional joke with friends). That doesn't mean it's okay by any means though, and it's hard for a guy to stand up for a girl in a game like that because the other guys will just think he's trying to hit on her.

Again it's completely ridiculous, but the only way to improve the situation is to get the word out that girls do in fact play games, and eventually overtime stereotypes while never completely disappearing, will ease quite a bit. I remember when was young (which is wierd cuz I'm only 20) and I thought a woman didn't belong in a metal band as a vocalist, then Arch Enemy blew me away especially when I found out that the singer was Angela Gossow! All I can say is that I hope things start changing because the community is absolutely terrible (especially for women). Good rant!

Nice rant and I feel your pain Cassie. I think the unnecessary trash talking cuts even deeper than just females online or Gears of War games specifically. Uneducated and unnecessary trash talking can almost ruin a game for people and I think that's a conversation many of us have had since XBL was released. Now I'm not saying I've never done it, but isn't it more fun to meet a new friend and enjoy the game instead? Not to mention you can get them to join us around here while you're at it Very Happy

As I mentioned on this week's GoGcast, I look forward to having an in-depth conversation with you and the rest of the Team Foxy girls for the show on Wednesday, May 20th. If you could research some scientific facts surrounding girls vs. guys in video gaming, that would be interesting to have for that discussion as well. I'm thinking specifically about how our brains, reflexes, bodies react differently during competitive gaming!

Nonetheless, don't let anyone tell you know you're totally awesome online, haha. Use the mute button if necessary and stick with it Wink
