  1. E3 2008 The IGN.com Private After Party @ E3 2008

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Jul 23 2008

This was definitely one of the major highlights of my E3 experience. I never thought I’d be able to attend this type of event, but I must admit that we were on the top of the video game world at this exclusive, password protected party. I do not want to brag or try to sound cool in this Chronicle, but I do want everyone to know about what happened for sure, so here it goes!

After talking with the owner of Gearbox, which is a major development company for Ubisoft, we were invited to attend a private after party that was thrown by IGN.com.

We jumped over there on Wednesday night around 7pm and walked into a casual world of video game company executives, top game developers/producers/managers, open bar, and great conversations. This event that was roped off and required an actual password to enter was poolside at a very nice hotel next door to the Staples Center and the Nokia Theater, where they were having the ESPY’s as well. This meant that as it got darker, we started seeing lazer and spot lights throughout the sky next to the party, helicopters hovering and landing on buildings, and even a blimp overhead!!! We joked that that it was covering the party and although that may not have been the case, it still gave this amazing event an even more unique and baller feel.

At one point in the night, Chris aka “KSI Legacy” looked at me and said, “this is what we’ve dreamed about doing all our life!” We were downtown LA, drinking cocktails around a private pool party with a large group of serious players in the gaming industry. I had to step back to appreciate the fact that Jet Set Studio and GatheringofGamers.com had just rocked Microsoft Tech-Ed in Orlando, was connecting with some awesome companies, and our video game community is growing in a very unique and exciting direction…all within the first year of going online! I purposed a toast to GoG within our small group, so know that all of you were there in spirit.

We met people from Gearbox, but also others from Ubisoft, THQ, and Midway who we had talked to during the day at E3. We even met the president of Ubisoft! All sorts of executives and managers from IGN.com were also there, since it was their 10th Anniversary party, so it was cool meeting them and networking with them as well. I wish I would have been able to take photos, but my camera had died from using it all day at the convention?!

The other private parties that we heard about (but didn’t get to attend) was the Ubisoft party with the Frag Dolls working the event and the most talked about party put on for Rockband, where The Who played live in a very intimate setting and attendees enjoyed the open bar and a amazing concert (one night before I heard they were inducted into the RocknRoll Hall of Fame). After talking with a few people who attended the next day, it sounds like both were totally BA! Owell, I’ll be there in 2009, right??

Indeed, awesome coverage, although I would have liked to have seen some things from the smaller companies too, but E3 is more geared towards the big guys anyways. I can't wait to see how these event change the GoG.
