  1. johnbiz10301 GoGame Review #8- NCAA Basketball 2010

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Nov 27 2009

This is my first sports game review so i'm hoping it will turn out good. I got Assassin's Creed 2 and Left 4 Dead 2 today so i'll be playing those and getting those up by next weekend.

NCAA Basketball 2010 is the newest of the yearly installment of college basketball. I've played a few of the college basketball games before and this one if definitely the best one out of all of them. It takes the series to new heights and makes it much more realistic. The game has great detail through out, even down to the littlest things.

The gameplay is incredible. It runs smooth and there is not a lot of unrealistic shots, of course there is a few shots that normally would not go in, but that happens in real life to. When you start a dynasty you get to pick your coaching style. This is key to how your team will play during the season. The styles are half court, which is a very slow paced offense, which comes in nice at the end of games and to keep the ball for long periods of time. The second style is balanced, this type of offense is just your normal not to fast not to slow kind of play. It gives the game a nice flow and allows you to get some good shots off if you don't rush it. The last style and my personal choice is up-tempo. Up tempo is a fast paced fast break kind of offense. This offense is really nice if your not big on passing a lot and want to put up a lot of points fast. The players are much more likely to make quick shots and players that would be considered out of control to most offenses be very good. The fatigue is also very realistic. If a player is tired he is more prone to missing more shots then he was at the beginning of the game, this is why I strongly suggest if you don't substitute that you spread the shots out between players.

The graphics are great. They master just about everything down to the sweat on a players forehead. Sports games have to go into so much detail with all of the uniforms, courts, and players that it would be difficult to make it look great, but in this game it does. For those of you that play sports games the one thing that is very obvious that it was poorly designed is the graphics of the crowd, this game changes that. They make the people into more individual people rather than a huge mass of colors and heads. The game is a great display of what sports games can look like. Another really cool feature is the score board. For all of you that have played sports games how repetitive they are. The way the score board at the top or bottom of the screen always looks exactly the same every single solitary game, not in this game. The game is actually designed so that the game is either on ESPN, giving the ESPN styled score board on the bottom of the screen, or CBS Sports, giving the CBS score board at the bottom of the screen. This may seem like a little detail, but it is actually really cool when you see it changing during the season, you can also change it before the game if you would prefer to play on the other score board then what the computer had selected.

The sound in the game is pretty good. The crowd sounds nice and there are some pretty cool chants that can get in during a game. There is one specific one that is crazy but does not happen to often. The crowd will start jumping up and down, yelling as loud as they can and the arena literally starts shaking, making it harder to make shots, this only happens to you personally at away games obviously. I've played 16 games, which is about half a season, and it has only happened once. It can also happen during free throws which makes then really hard to make. I shot about 15% from the free throw line the game this happened in. Like the score board at the bottom of the screen the announcers also change to match the score board. ESPN games with have the ESPN announcers and CBS will have the CBS announcers. This is very refreshing when your like me and play multiply games at a time and you don't have to listen to the same announcers over and over again, which is a pain, and i've played a 162 game baseball season, just think of what that was like.

Overall this game is a really good game to start the decade for college basketball and I can't wait to see what next years version will have in store. EA sports has really stepped there game up for the 2010 games and I cant wait to see even more development in the future.

I've always enjoyed a good basketball game, even back in the days with Tecmo Basketball and the first NBA Live games.

Like other sports games, it's been awhile since I've picked up a recent version of the game, so this review has me wondering if I need to pick up a new basketball video game.

    Let me check real quick...

Yep, NBA Live 07 is the last basketball game I purchased, and if I recall, it was under $10 Wink

Bring this to the GoG 5,000 Party and maybe we can setup a game!
