  1. johnbiz10301 GoGame Review #7- Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Nov 24 2009

I played campaign for about the last 5 hours or so, I took a little break to do some homework then got to work. I really wanted to get this done so I could get NCAA Basketball done before black Friday which is when i'm getting L4D2 and AC2

HOLY CRAP THIS GAME IS THE GREATEST GAME I HAVE EVER PLAYED. There is probably no other game out there that I could sit down and play campaign for 5 hours, and I wouldn't of taken a break if it wasn't for homework. When I came down stairs to get more paper I was so tempted to pick up the controller and play for about 5 minutes, the game is just that great.

I know there is a lot of people out there that don't really like campaign/ story modes in games (BEN) but this game is so worth playing. The story line is so good. It's split up into two parts, Task Force 141 and Rangers. The Rangers are your normal soldiers shotting people left and right. Task Force 141 is a special operations unit, I guess you could call them Modern Warfare 2's version of Navy Seals. The plot is pretty intense. You are mainly battling the Russians during the campaign mode, and let me tell you, you will be shocked at one of the events that takes place at the end of the game. I'll give you a little hint, gasoline and cigarette, trust me you'll know what part i'm talking about when you get to the game. Now we all know about the controversial mission "No Russian" in the game where you are a Russian terrorist. This is the only mission that is the C.I.A's. Towards the end of the game this mission will make a little more. The head guy, Makorav, is the Russian leader of the war. You really have to play the campaign, no matter how much you dislike story modes in games. Watch the credits when you beat it also, pretty sweet cut scene I thought.

Special Ops is sort of what Modern Warfare did to replace Zombies, that is what I compare it to anyways. The way it works is you earn stars for doing good on the missions. Some missions are timed, others are based on the difficulty you have them set on. The places where the missions take place make much more sence after beating campaign as all of the places are settings from campaign. When you unlock more stars you unlock more missions to do. There is a total of 69 stars possible to earn in Special Ops. There are a few missions where two players are required, but that isn't a big deal, you can just get online and do them with a friend or a random person you find in the online lobby of Special Ops.

And now what everyone has been waiting for, online. The online game play on this game takes online play to a whole new level. Each kill is in Team Death Match is now 100 XP instead of 10, of course the total XP needed to raise levels was adjusted accordingly. You must reach level 70 now to go Prestige. The kill streak rewards are absolutely incredible. There is the standard UAV but then after that, it is crazy. There is everything from your simply Herrier Jet which is like a helicopter and air strike from Call of Duty 4 combined. Two jets drop bombs, the last one mows down enemies at an alarming rate. Then the big boy, the Nuke is crazy. To get this thing you must first unlock, have it turned on, and get a 25 ill streak. If you are lucky enough to get this fine piece of bombing all you must do is simply press button on your controller, obliterate the other team, and the game is an automatic victory for the team that deployed the Nuke. These are just a few of the sweet kill stream rewards.

The guns on online are great. To show the sheer power of the sniper class, the Barret .50 Cal is the second sniper. There are so many great guns to go through that I don't know how anyone could complete all the challenges for them. The things you can add to them are pretty awesome as well. There is a heartbeat sensor that can pick up all enemies without the perk Ninja on, pretty much a permanent UAV. ACOG's are awesome in this game. They can be put on all guns and greatly improve the range of the weapon. The best scope, however, is thermal in my opinion. This allows you to see people by there body heat, great during smoke bomb coverage and when the person is hiding behind a non solid object such as a bush. I've never tested it through a wall so i'm not sure if it you can see people through walls or not.

The Perks are pretty sweet. There is now perk challenges where you can actually unlock upgrade perks by completing them. One of the perks is called Hardline, one of my favorite, and one of the cheapest. This allows you to get kill stream rewards one kill early. Lets take a UAV for example, normally a three kill streak till you can call it in, with Hardline on, it is only a two kill streak.

I know I said Borderlands deserves game of the year, but this game beats Borderlands. If this doesn't win game of the year I will personally drive to whoever votes for the winner, and make him sit down and watch me play the whole campaign so he knows how stupid of decision they made.

    Buy/Sell: Buy Ninja

Nice review, but there are a few things you need to edit. Cold Blooded does not drop you off of players heartbeat sensors. Cold Blooded takes you off of all UAV coverage, thermal scope, and any sort of killstreak call in the enemy team has, like a helicopter. Ninja is the perk that removes you from other players heartbeat sensors. Once you get 50 kills close range with Ninja on it graduates to Ninja Pro, so while you don't show up on other players heartbeat sensors you also have silent footsteps.

Still a great review, I need to find the time to play the campaign.
