  1. johnbiz10301 GoGame Review #5- LEGO Rock Band

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Nov 19 2009

I haven't beat this game yet which is what I'm usually going to try to do before I review a game but I'd much rather be playing Modern Warfare 2 then LEGO Rock Band.
Also please remember the buy sell category is based on how the game is and the type of genre it is. This is definitely one of the games where the buy or sell section could be a little awkward because of the style of game it is and how its all set up.

LEGO Rock Band is the newest side game in the Rock Band series. Rock Band is just now starting to work with side games, the first one, Beatles Rock Band, was a pretty good success. This game obviously could get some negativity because of the fact its Legos and honestly, theres probably a lot of people that would just throw this game off there list before even playing in just because the word "Lego" is used in the title, I know I was that way until this game came out, however this one is interesting to say the least. Rock Band is obviously ok with trying everything with the making of this game, and i'm sure a nice check from Lego didn't hurt either Wink

The game is literally all Legos from the characters all the way down to the notes them self. It's obviously a little corny since its Legos but let me tell you something, seeing a Lego version of Queen was priceless.

The set list for this game honestly isn't to bad. Theres a lot of more songs on this game that people outside of the rock community would know such as Thunder by Boys like Girls, Kung Fu Fighting by Carl Douglas, We Will Rock You by Queen, and So What by Pink. Some of these songs might not seem to great to most people which I understand but Rock Band is defiantly trying to put songs on the games to get all types of music lovers to buy there game. This game is also trying to get the younger gamers out there to buy this game by using the Lego theme. This game is also much better for parents who are concerned about the music there kids listen to, all very appropriate lyrics for a younger kid and the characters are much cleaner then in previous games by the clothes they can wear.

The career mode is set up like the Rock Band 2 career which I honestly think is the worst form of career ever put into a game besides Guitar Hero 5. The one thing that makes the LEGO Rock Band career kind of fun however is the story line. In Rock Band 2 you just kind of play through the career for really no reason besides to get to the top of the rock world. In LEGO Rock Band you are actually doing the things for a reason. At the end of each set list there is a "boss" or challenge I guess is what they would be called. There is always some kind of problem relating to the venue that you have to use "the power of rock" to get through. For example, there is a mansion haunted by ghosts so you play the song Ghostbusters to get rid of the ghosts. It's actually pretty cool when you get into it. The set list are divided into vehicles instead of cities. You buy new vehicles with studs (the Lego form of money) to travel to different venues to play. You also have to unlock the vehicle before you can buy it. I found the career mode that I've played so far pretty cool the way it is set up, much more interesting then Rock Band 2.

The guitar charts are pretty easy and a few of them are kind of boring. I think it would be pretty obvious that LEGO Rock Band would have easy songs but you never know.

The drum charts are surprisingly really fun to play. I don't know what it is about them but I think they charted the songs extremely well. Theres just something about them that makes them so addicting.

The graphics are the same as all the other Rock Band games except some of the venues are a little brighter. That is one thing I really disliked about Rock Band 1 and 2 is how dark the venues are, LEGO Rock Band broke that trend a little bit. Besides that and everything being made out of Legos the graphics are pretty much same as Rock Band 2.

This game actually surprised me with how fun it was when I first got it, I just haven't played in much because of all the other games I've been playing. I'm still a little on the fence however on my buy or sell but I'm going to have to go with...

    Buy/Sell: Buy Ninja
Next Review: Band Hero or Modern Warfare 2
