  1. johnbiz10301 GoGame Review #3- DJ Hero

Player Chronicle -- Posted on Oct 31 2009

I've been known to have some pretty long jam sessions but this might beat all of them. I've been playing since about 5 PM central time with an hour break to talk to some friends on the phone and played guitar for a little bit. Before I actually get into the review i'd like to say that the Buy/Sell section is game specific so like for DJ Hero, if you hate Hip-Hop and rhythm games, then don't buy it even if I say buy.

DJ Hero is the latest game by Activision. Like Activision's popular Guitar Hero series DJ Hero puts you in the shoes of a musician. This time, instead of a rock star your a DJ running the night life.

All of the songs are mixes and not master tracks, meaning theres two songs mixed together instead of just a master track. Theres a few mixes that i'm not sure how they got in the game but for the most part they are all pretty good. The best i think is probably the Jukebox Hero/ DJ Hero mix or the Sabotage/ Monkey Wrench mix. Most of the music leans the hip-hop genre of music and not as much techno as i'm sure some were hoping for. As you can tell there are some mixes of rock songs but its a small amount and most are Beastie Boys and more rap type songs. This game has way to much Jackson 5 in it also.

The way you actually play is somewhat similar to Guitar Hero. The turntable controller has three frets on it, green, red, and blue. It also has a Euphoria button, which is DJ Hero's version of star power, a Crossfader, and a Freestyle Dial.

There are many different things you need to do to play. To hit a regular note all you have to do is hit the fret. There is two kinds of scratching, a regular scratch which i'm guessing doesn't need to be described and a directional scratch. To do a directional scratch you must scratch in the way that the arrow points. The Crossfader us used to "jump charts". What this means is that when you are playing you will need to jump the green or the blue out to hit notes and then bring it back in.

The DJ's and groups that have a featured setlist are Grandmaster Flash, Jay-Z, DJ Jazzy Jeff, DJ Yoda, Daft Punk, DJ AM (R.I.P), DJ Shadow, J. Period, DJ Z-Trip, and Scratch Perverts.

Overall this is a really fun game that i think if you enjoy the music you could really get into it

I was hoping for more of a techno flavor, but I'm interested in this game and appreciate your insight for sure. I have to wonder if the Renegade Edition is worth the extra cash?
